I will turn it on then after about 30 minutes it will shut itself off then won't come back on for a few hours. It's been doing this for a while. What's wrong with it!

Sounds like the internal power supply is overheating. Take it to a TV repair shop.

My TV start doing strange things before it finally died (RIP) a few years later. It had a VHS with it. I would put in a tape and it would just shut off. So I quit using the player. Other times I would hear noise in the other room and the TV had turned itself on. The picture would sometimes start to shrink and then it would be OK and then it would shrink again.

So I guess I don't really have an answer for you. I hope its the parental control or the timer has been set by mistake. If it's a newer TV I'll say go have it looked at. If it's an older TV, get ready to say goodbye. We put ours in a spare room until it's final end..

mine does that too. It also has changed the channel by itself.Twice now to the same channel, (direct tv ) 30's big band music, in my old 1900's home. weird, but is it electrical, is something shorting out? This could be a bad thing. Did your tv get wet some how? This could definitely cause that.Could it be getting too hot, and over heating?
If I were you, I would turn off the breaker to that room, and wait 5 minutes. Then try it, sometimes it works for my electronics, I am not sure why, but it works.

It sounds like some thing's overheating. Set a small fan to blow on the back of the set and see if this helps. TV repair shops have special aerosols for troubleshooting problems like this, but TVs are so inexpensive that it may be best to replace it. Depending on where you live, you may be able to get a TV for Free or next to nothing from Craigs List.

It sounds like you have set up a sleep timer.

My life is so much better since i ditched my TV back in May 2006
Try life without TV for a while

It seems crazy to be paying £40 per month for a cable subscription where they just steam endless adverts in to your home with a few (repeated) programs in between

Some of the things i have been doing since dumping the TV are: Building wind turbines, learning spanish, learning how to program microchips, there are loads of cool new things to do instead of watching a mind nubming TV screen

I have a true story for you krissy that I thought that I would never have to tell to anyone as long as I live. but here goes:

It was a cold rainy day for a Friday on Octuber 13th 1995 I was 11 years old at the time and I had plenty of battery operated toy cars and trucks and monkeys beating drums and stuff, I went to bed and I climbed into bed and I was asleep and I felt like someone or thing pulling at the base of the covers but when I got up to look around I seen nothing and then that was whern my computer popped on and went to a site called knome.com and then evil laughter and then the monitor started spinning around and around faster and faster and then disappeared in thin air and the cables cut clean in half. I jumped in bed and threw the covers up in the air hopeing that they would cover me up but I heard a high pitch squeakie voice "oh no you don't and the ceiling fan turnned itself on ultra fast and caught the covers and it shredded them to rags and threw all about the room. now that got me mad so I said ok this was war. but I could not see anything of who or what to hit or catch. so I decided to sit in a massage chair that my perants bought me for my 10th birthday but I fell asleep with a base ball bat in my hands and to this day I am shocked to tell people what happen and how I know it happened . What happened was evil gnomes got into everything electronic for one night and they were drivng the toys aroung the house looking for other trouble they could get into nest octuber 13th but one of them was playing with the electronic on the chair I was sleeping in while I was asleep with a bat in my hands he turned it on high and in the morning I had 20 big knots on my forhead and my monitor was back and it had a cam connected to it too pointed to where I spent the night and it was recording the whole time. that is how I know what happened cuase the computer recorded it all and there was a message from the gnome king "we will be back!!"

but actually LOL hope you liked the story

most new tv have a timer to either start or turn off the set or both so look at the remote and press the menu button and go throught the on screen menus with the arrow keys and the center button to select aand menu button again to exit the onscreen menu but it it is your parents you might ask them first for the book on it and the remote if no remote then you need to send away for one. or a old set and on it's way out I would help it on it's way out I did my old set that way out the up stairs window to the alley <> and buy a new one

you may have the sleep timer set, but also i need more info, if it is an older model with a picture tube, it may be old and the transformer is overheating and has a self shut off for protection, like a surge protector.

That's weird. I'd say get a new tv. Or go into the menu and try and find timers?
