What will change besides the fact that they will not be able to make babies? I am referring to male German shepherds.

I am answering with a question and that question is What are you trying to accomplish other than not breeding the dog?

If you are trying to adjust his personality by neutering him then I can tell you that there is no guarantee that neutering a dog will reduce the aggressive nature of a dog. He will sometimes calm down but I had a Dalmatian/Pit cross who became more aggressive after his neuter, but he was a rarity.

In the surgery they remove the testicles and the spermoidal tubing so that the dog will not get an erection anymore. It does tend to make them less sensitive to females in heat but there is no guarantee that there will be no reaction I say that because even spayed females will react to female dogs in heat.

If you are hoping to stop fighting between two males by neutering one then it is my suggestion that you neuter both males otherwise you will have a dominate male inadvertently. It would not be fair to neuter one male and not the other.

I hoped I helped.

Their testicles are surgically removed, so in addition to the fact that they can no longer father puppies, their levels of male hormones are diminished. That means that they tend to be less aggressive and less likely to wander seeking a potential mate. I have never had a German shepherd, but I have a 7-year-old mixed breed of a similar size, and we neutered him at 5 months. He still seems to associate the veterinary clinic with negative experiences and needs to be "encouraged" - alright, dragged in - when he needs to go to the vet. But other than that, he is a happy and well-adjusted big guy. It's amazing how much mellower a male without testicles can be. I will say that my husband had a difficult time with the concept of neutering the dog - too much identification, I guess!

The hormones are lessened and they become less interested in fighting and breeding. Intact males of any breed can be difficult to deal with. They can have a one track mind!!!! Dogs are able to smell a female in heat up to 10 miles away!!!!! If the dog is intact, they will want to act on the smell! They ignore you, fight, stop eating, mark the territory, and mount things. If there are other males in the area, a lot of fighting can occur.

Neutering also decreases the risk of testicular, prostate, and rectal tumors in the dog.

It depends on the age of the dog. If you neuter the dog too young, you keep the puppy attitude because he has never had any male hormones to distract him. If you neuter an older dog, it may take them a while to calm down, but in my experience, they do. It may also be age. . .

The changes depend on the dog, but in general they gain weight, become less aggressive, more lazy and sometimes even a little depressed. They also tend to become sweeter.

well obviously the testicles will be gone, but it also lowers aggression in male dogs. he also wont be going crazy when the female dog next door or walking by is in heat.

Nothing else will change. If anything changes your dog will become nicer and friendlier. But usually nothing changes.
