Can or should? And what do you mean by false?

Good therapists will help a patient to change their perception or shift their paradigm of a certain situation with the intention of making things better for the patient. This could be considered putting an idea into someone's head.

Hypnotists can "put an idea in a patient's head" to help them do things like quitting smoking, weight loss, boost self esteem, etc. It's not necessarily a new idea. It's just suggestion of a newer, better way of looking at things. And, if the hypnotist is good, it sticks without much effort on the part of the patient.

Can someone put a false idea into someone's head? Of course. But does that mean that if you need help that you should not look into therapy or hypnosis? Not at all. . . just talk to a reputable, credentialed professional. Ask for a referral from your doctor if at all possible.

Yes. I read an article not too long ago that many of the so called "repressed memories" from a person's youth are suggestions planted by the therapist, often unintentionally.

yes. you should be careful, the one incident I know of was made up on Law and Order SVU but it can happen. The therapist made the daughter believe that her father had molested her and her sisters but he actually didnt. She was so upset about it she actually killed her father and they didnt recognize until after she killed him that nothing had happened. be careful, there are always ppl out there who want to mess with you.
