It is inappropriate to take God as our order supplyer and pray for good health, wealth, education, material possessions, success in business, good spouse, nice children etc.
We must pray to God to engage us in His service and help us develop pure love for Him. If we pray for that, all our material needs will be satisfied automatically, there is no need to bother God asking for them.

Appropriate topics are World Peace, help or to be healed in times of illness (yours, family, friends), strength in the face of stress or adversity (e.g. you lost your job, your boss yells at you but you can't quit your job), wisdom to know what to do next when you have to make a decision or you just don't know what to do next, help finding a job, courage to face up to a tough situation or decision, you or your family's safety. Just about anything you need help with.

Inappropriate topics: praying for someone to die or be hurt (but you can pray that a predator or other dangerous person or criminal should be prevented from doing it again, or for justice), winning at cheating or in getting away with doing something that hurts another person. In other words, you can't pray for something that would violate the 10 commandments.

The ideal prayers include Petition, Repentence, Adoration and Thanksgiving.

Hope that answers your question.

Well, I was going to go into a bunch of scriptures that had to do with prayers and WHAT THE BIBLES SAYS IS OKAY TO PRAY FOR, however, H. B. SAID IT BEST, so I won't.

I will point out one thing, before he died, Jesus 'taught' his followers this prayer as an example in "how to pray" in Luke 11:2-4

2. Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed by thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
3. Give us day by day our daily bread.
4. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

So we have a "few rules from Christ when we pray." That is:

#1. Alway pray first for Jehovah/Yahweh's name to be Sanctified or Hallowed - after all God is just a "title and could be satan himself, the God of this world."
#2. Thy Kingdom Come, always ask secondly for God's will to be done on this earth as he would have it done. Not as some right wing politican wants it done, because ONLY by God's kingdom returning will the Earth be saved, not by humans. We haven't saved it in over 6,000 years, we're not gonna do it in the next 10 years or so.
#3. Give us day by day our daily bread. "Allow us to study and learn of you all that we can know and benefit from it. Give us enough to get through the day and into tomorrow."
#4. And forgive our sins, AS WE FORGIVE THE SINS OF EVERYONE WHO ASKS US TO FORGIVE THEM. God simply will not forgive us, if we are unwilling or unable to forgive others, and we can see that here. Otherwise our prayers are like those spoken of in Lamentations 3:44, "thou has covered thyself with a cloud, that our prayer should not pass through."

praying according to God's will is always acceptable- praying for someone's salvation, healing, deliverance, how we can be of service, etc
praying against God's will is not acceptable- we might not know what that would be for a specific case but we know not to pray for someone's harm or downfall- we are not to prayo ut of selfish and self serving motives

You can pray for whatever you wish. Not all prayers are gonna get answered. God already knows what you really want, but will probably only give you what you really need.

You don't pray for things. The point of prayer is to become one with the mind of God.

All else is vanity.
