If you walked into my house and asked for toast with butter I would think you were VERY strange. As a guest in someone's house you do not ask for food - you wait till you are offered.

if you walk into the house and ask for food randomly its a bit weird. what i know isn't proper etiquette is walking into a house and making a beeline for the fridge and asking the PEOPLE WHO LIVE THERE if they want anything.
