When you think services are all about you, they can seem "dry".
The point is not to take away something, the point is to come, give thanks, and rejoice in what God has done the other 6 days. Whether "He gives or takes away", His name is to be blessed.

Lilith, nice one! :D Yeah, talk about "dry"! It depends on how you define dry. For me, it has been something like "what the heck is this doing for me?" I can't seem to feel invigorated whenever I attend Church. And the rituals seem to be shallow or superficial. I mean, people are waving their hands but nobody's really waving the cos they're feeling ecstatic. Plus, almost nobody is singing along with the choir and responding.

Anyhow, I think it's because it has become a routine. Yep. A routine that has to be done so as not to violate any preconceptions or set obligations (set, obligations...ha ha). Maybe it's because we're all so disillusioned. The Church is not exactly God. It's made up of the people who believe in the same God. But people go to church and the absence of that "solidarity" feeling contributes, plus the fact that only the "righteous" seem to be welcomed there (at least in my experience). Try hanging out at a bar the night before and see if they don't crucify you the next day. Also, the fact is some churches has ceased to become places of healing, which is what it's supposed to be in the first place.

Pardon the rambling but as someone who has read stuff on the healing ministry, I think some churches need to work on how they communicate the message of salvation to other people. Otherwise, they just get bored, or worse, scared!

For me it is the sermon that makes it dry. I went to a different church today and was not moved by the music but was very moved by the message and the delivery of the message. I felt like I was involved in a good spiritual conversation. I want to go back but my fiancees friend made a comment about how I didnt participate and it made me feel very self conscious.

I think sometimes churches can be dry because of the style of music, or the preaching mainly. However, I think if the people are warm and loving, and are there to worship and think beyond themselves, a person will get something out of the service. I think people today approach worship with the wrong attitude of "what can I get out of it?"

When I have had unreasonable expectations of my church experience it has been "dry". When I get my needs met by God, then I have something to offer my church and the experience is better. I also have lots to say, but that's at the essence of it.

Everybody's church experience has been dry since most churches have sold out to the government by taking the 501(c)(3) tax exempt corporation status prohibiting them from preaching the whole counsel of God's Word.

It was a leaning experience.
To learn how to recognize the false teachings.
Now I'm back, I have seen a real good one this time.
This pastor has been one for 35 years and he said Jesus wasn't the name.
Is this what is meant by even denying the master that bought them? Or was I hearing what was in his mind.

I went to church for a while, back in 1991. I later discovered that god and jesus dont even exist. Imagine how "dry" that church experience was.

Because all those baptists kick me over when nobody is looking. I am on crutches and the baptists like to kick them out from under me. That put a real damper on my religious experience.
