My boyfriend is being charged with possession w/intent to sell drugs ( ecstacy, weed, crack) and also domestic violence. When he got arrested instead of going to county he was put into a mental hospital and was diagnosed as being bipolar and having chemical imbalance in his brain or what not. He stayed in the hospital for about a week and then they took him to county because by then he was more in a better conditioned to go to jail. He bailed out and has an upcoming court date...Would the judge take in consideration about his conditioned???

Well in my experience most people that use drugs are in fact bipolar to begin with. The use of drugs is a symptom not a cause, a way of self medication. I would have to say NO.

First of all, bipolar is a chemical imbalance in the brain.

Second, the only way being diagnosed with Bipolar changes a court hearing, is if your boyfriend pleads insanity. But they probably won't accept that when part of his charges involve drug selling stuff.

No, but you wanna make sure he really is coz if he's diagnosed that and isn't really, it'll make a difference on his future medical records and such. They'll think he's crazy when he's just a carefree guy who does drugs and sells sometimes, with disregard for others' lives, if he's not really bipolar.

Almost everybody claims to be bi-polar when they're pleading for mercy in court. Most of them really are, but it doesn't seem to help much in getting a lighter sentence. US prisons have been called the worlds largest mental institution.

no because what he did is still a crime wheather he is crazy or not. that plea will probably just pisss the judge off because they hear that crap so much

I doubt it. He conciously decided to be a drug dealer. You should be getting ready to start visiting him in prison.
