I reccommend any Black Kong toy. Make sure that you inspect the toys and chew toys for any ripping or small parts that are loose and THROW them away.

Well I WAS going to be a smart alec and say, "The neighbour's kids" but as you have one those *touchy* breeds (former pit owner myself) I'm going to agree with the Kong toys. They really last! And the cone-type ones with a small hole on one end and a bigger hole on the other, they are hollow inside - well stuff the small end of peanut butter (or Cheez Whiz) then fill it with beef broth (or chicken). Put it upright in the freezer for a few hours. Take it out when frozen and seal up the other end with PB or CW and let poochy have a go at it! (Trust me, keeps em busy for hours...erm, you might wanna give it to them OUTSIDE otherwise carpet start to smell kinda all funky like and blagh).
Kong also makes rope toys, with the rubber chew part in the middle, and ones specifically designed to get rid of plaque.
Rawhide is not recommended because chunks of it can break off and get lodged in the intestinal tract - but good chewers tend not to have that problem so I think you're okay. just a thought though. Best of luck!

First of all, congratulations on having a great dog! I have a pit bull mix (an am staff's distant cousin), & he LOVES to chew. Luckily, he has learned to chew HIS toys, instead of other things in the house. I totally agree with the people who recommend Kong toys. The black ones are the toughest, so probably the best for your type of dog. Red & other color Kongs other than black are softer, so would probably be shredded quickly. The only other chew toys that I allow my dogs to have, for the most part, are Nylabones. I used to be worried that the tiny bits that come off of these bones when they are chewed, might harm my dogs' insides. But after 15 years or more of owning multiple dogs & having them chew Kongs & Nylabones, I have never had a problem with either type of toy. When choosing a Nylabone for your dog, take note of the many different sizes & types, & try to get one of the biggest sizes. For your chewer, do NOT get the soft, edible, "Gumabone," or "puppy bone" types, as a hardy chewer can shred these softer, squishy toys & swallow big pieces. Be sure to get either the super hard type (called Galileo or aggressive chewer bones), or the original hard bone-like type ("souper" shape is biggest, then there are long regular bone shaped ones). I would NOT recommend anything smaller than "wolf" size for your kind of dog. In fact, bigger than "wolf" would be best. Whatever you do, do NOT give your dog rawhide, or other hide, ear, or hoof based toys, as these things can cause intestinal problems. And some people have had problems with actual animal bones (either cooked or uncooked) splintering in their dogs' mouths & cutting their intestines. Another popular type of chew, the Greenies, Nutribones, or other "dental chews," can also cause problems if a dog bites off & swallows large chunks of them. SO.....stick to the Kongs & Nylabones, & your dog should be OK. If you have ANY doubt about a toy, don't leave your dog alone with it. For any new type of toy, give your dog one when you can watch, for the first time, to be sure your dog can play safely with that type of toy. And, of course, if you want more info on anything having to do with your dog, remember to ask your vet or your vet's staff. They are the BEST advisors. Have fun with your dog!

I also like the Extreme Kong (black one). I have an extreme chewer, and I stuff all kinds of things into the Kong. Many things can be frozen in it for a longer chew!!!!!!
You learn to get creative with it!!!!!!!

The blue kong can be x-ray if the dog accidently swallows it.
I do not give my dogs chew toys outside of sterilized bones without supervision. My dogs father died of bloat from swallowing a tennis ball!

My dogs are strong chewers and seem to like Nylabones. They last a long time and even come in flavors. Just make sure you get the right size and strength for your dog. Get the ones labeled "for strong chewers".
