Try using a detangler and a good shampoo and conditioner that have plenty of moisturizers. Make sure that her hair is always hydrated. Her hair probably tangles very easily and that can be not only painful for her but frustrating form her mother when she tries to comb it out. Make sure that you use a wide toothed comb, and start coming out from the ends first instead of near the root of the hair. Don't forget a leave in conditioner for curly hair or leave in detangler. Keep spraying as you comb. Good luck and happy combing!

First, go for shampoos and conditioners labeled "smooth" like Pro Vive L'oreal ($5.99)Second, use a detangler spray like (Johnson and Johnson's, L'oreal Kids or Pantene Leave in Light Conditioner Detangler $3.99-$4.99) They could be use on dry or wet hair. Use a wide teeth comb and start combing from ends to roots. A ponytail is always a little uncomfortable but it shouldn't be a nightmare. Use a defreeze or smoothing cream like Samy Salon System Smoothing Cream (Walgreens $6.99) when not wearing a ponytail. It really work! That's what I use everyday. Don't use too many products on her hair; it might work at first but then, it could be worst. Residue and build up are never good options. When posible use an intensive conditioner like Emergency from Samy Salon System($6.99 Walgreens) or Pantene Deep Cond ($4.99) at least once a week. Finally, a trip to the beauty every 3- 4 months to trim the ends will help keep hair more manegable.

Do not comb her hair dry. That will just cause breakage & pain. Use a wide tooth comb. . only when wet or when the conditioner is on it. As far as products, you have to experiment to find out what works well for her hair. .just make sure it is moisturizing. Detangle her hair when the conditioner is in. . that will make it easier to deal with once it dries. Sounds like her hair has more characteristics for African American hair so I would care for it that way. Search the intenet for biracial hair care.

My 3 year old has the same hair and the same problem, this is how I manage it. I wash her hair 3x's a week with Pantene for women of color and I conditioner her hair with Pantene women of color conditioner. I comb her hair out in the bath with the conditioner still in her hair. Use a wide tooth comb and start from the bottom and work your way up then rinse her hair. I pat her hair dry and put both carrot oil and coconut oil in her hair. I comb her hair out again and put it in loose braids until I am ready to really style it. I put a mixture of conditioner and water in a spray bottle and use this on her hair when I am ready to style it. I get it pretty damp and then add more carrot/coconut oil and style in a pony tail etc.... after it is in a pony tail I seperate her curls and add more oil if it is still frizzy or poofy. I know that this seems like a lot of work but if you get into a system it is really not that bad and it seems like the process is taming her hair and getting it in better shape. Hope this helps.

Well, a wooly textured hair means that it tends to be a lot of it. Tell her to try combing it out when wet, and in small sections at a time. Spray a detangler and use a larger toothed comb. after combing it out each section should be braided. After detangling the whole thing, if it is a ponytail she wants then unbraid all the sections and pull together in the poytail. Use gel for her ends and brush them down. after fastening then put a scarf to hold down the ends until she gets to her destination. and DONT forget to braid the pony tail because after her hair drys it will become a big POOF. fasten the end of the braid with another "tangle free" rubber band. HOPE THIS HELPS!

It should be cared for as an African American. If she were older like say 14 years old I would say perm her hair because it would be much easier to comb and very much less painful, but she is too young fer her hair to be permed.( it can damage her hair ) so you should just wash her hair, use shampoo and use detangeling conditioner. blow dry her hair . use the type of blow dryer that has a comb that can attach to it . after that use a special grease like African pride grease to grease her hair and braid it . and keep it braided. there are all types of styles that can be done with braiding. the braiding will keep it from being tangled up and it also help the hair to grow. when she gets older you can perm her hair.

African American...I have 2 daughters, and I go thru the same thing with my oldest...I wash their hair once a week, and I use a spray oil in their hair, it's called HOT6 OIL, and it REALLY helps with the tangles and the frizz. Hope this helps.

i'd say she was tenderheaded but you said it is ok when you comb it. the other person needs to watch how you do it. i hope you are using a pick or other wide tooth comb. use any shampoo and conditioner but grease lightly after. walmart sells grease and family dollar. i used coconut on my sons. my kids are bi-racial but had big fro's.one of my son's was tenderheaded, i'm glad he was the one with loose curl.

My daughter is 0.5 caucasian/0.5 South Indian and that i'm consistently stunned how sluggish her hair grows while in comparison with mine or different caucasians. Her hair is curly and could circulate to her backside while moist. She is 5 and has had purely 2 haircuts. She's my DAH - ling!
