I see militant drivers out there everyday, wreaking havoc on city streets. It is a serious question that needs serious answers. It's getting worse, and the drivers are getting vigilant. It's beginning to be an all out war.

I've seen motorists beating each other up on the side of the road, and pull knives out in traffic.

I personally think it's the increased volume of vehicles on the road, combined with a decresed focus on traffic safety by law enforcement. I see it too and sadly, have been enraged to the point of ALMOST taking someone out that was seriously in need of a reality check. I worked in law enforcement for 9 years and saw a steady increase in "bad" or careless driving... back then it didn't have a name like road rage, but it was there in it's infancy. How to stop it? When police departments have to cut budgets, they go for traffic and gang departments first. Then they invest in technology (cameras, "black boxes", TV ads, etc...) to try to reduce the problem. What we need are traffic cops, stronger city politicians and better court systems.

A lot of reasons... Some people get SUVs and think they own the road and the smaller cars are going to adapt to their driving. Others have they're ears glued to their cell phone and aren't focusing on their driving. Many seem to forget there are other people even on the road... they swerve into lanes not even looking to see if someone is next to them... etc. People just don't care.. or only care about themselves.

Drivers having less experience are driving on the roads rashly as if the roads are theirs. I think this should be strictly avoided with better and more safe traffic rules and strict officers.

As you say, it is the drivers, not the driving situation. people are getting too impatient these days and everyone think only of his right, not the public. This kind of selfish and impatient behaviour is what is turning the street into a battlefield.

people are surprised at courtesy on the road. they expect everyone to be like themselves - commuter ramp cheating, lane changing without signalling, cutting in from exit lanes at the last minute. it's hard to stay polite out there.
