I have a lemon-colored beagle about eight and half months old... when 6 months old, we kept him outside. Then, he was free to do as he pleased, but afterwards, came the digging and scratching problem... So we bought a kennel and kept him in there. I take him for a walk about two hours a day, and play with him ALOT! we've been having a problem... He barks at me when I try to put on his leash, he jumps, tries to bite me, he urinates and poops in the middle of the street (and recently, started pooping in the middle of the street and a car driving our way!), he tears up the leash while we walk, he barks at other dogs, scratching my brother, constantly picking up sticks and other kinds of debris, pooping in his home, eating bugs and pebbles every five seconds I love him, but I'm starting to give up it's been three months of all that, and I punish him occasionally by skipping one meal or refusing to play with him...and in other ways too I know beagles are stubborn, but this is too much

Well, I did get him froma petstore, and he does have some socializing issues... do you know how much dog training usually costs?

And just for the record, "playing with him a lot meant lots of running and catching... not simply toys or simple things...

Hi!

Sounds like your dog thinks he's the boss, and that needs to change FAST!

Try asserting your authority by using the NILIF method. Means "nothing in life is free". Make him do a simple command before he eats, before you play, before you pet him. Also, using a prong collar on walks may help to keep him inline. Before using a collar like that, please get proper directions from an expert (such as your vet). I've seen too many people abuse that form of training.

Also, if he's being naughty and doesn't listen when you say NO, try using a shaker can. I have an article on my website, I had to use it with my lovely puppy :) Works like a charm!

Hope you find some useful information!
AJ

#1. Do not skip meals this will only make the dog more anxious and act out. You wan't to keep things as routine as possible for yourself and the dog.

#2 The pooping in the middle of the street should be addressed by taking the dog out frequently only to the spot you designate for the dog to do it's business. When the dog goes reward him. Ignore the dog when it goes in the wrong place. Do not punish the dog when it goes in the wrong place or it will start eating it's own feces to hide it from you.

#3. When you come to him after being away for awhile and basically ignore him if he is acting up. Ignore the barking and yapping it may take 15 mins or so the 1st time. Once the dog calms down then reward him with a treat/praise/petting but not too much. Do not approach the dog with an excited high pitch voice but a calm demeanor.

#4 A beagle is a hunting dog and is very high energy. A walk isn't enough for him. He needs to run around and run around a lot. The more he gets to spend energy on exercising the less energy he will have to misbehave. Especially at Dawn and Dusk. These are the most active times for the dog naturally.

#5 Try looking on the Internet for a dog park in your city and also if your at a loss on training your dog obedience school may be in order.

Chole, No lemon & white are not rare.I have 2. Look up crate training to keep it safe & give it its own little space to begin with. You will have to get your mum to show you how to hoover properly as the white hair goes everywhere. Plenty of puppy safe toys & chews as it will chew everything in sight but that's the same with all pups not just beagle ones. Look up Beagle welfare advice site there are some tel numbers in there I am sure they would be happy give you some good advice if you give one of the persons on the list a call. Your vet will be a good source of advice when you take it for its vaccination shots & get it micro chipped.Beagles do have a habit of following their noses so it would be great to if it does disappear that someone will return it to by getting it scanned & find out where you live so it can be returned to you.Your vet can also advise you about feeding your puppy. The breeder you are getting your pup from will also advise you on what it is being fed when you pick it ip.My youngest one was on weetabix with goats milk & Pedigree Chum puppy food.I do hope you are getting it from a good breeder & not from the internet or puppy farm. Also ask your vet about rabies vaccination if you are thinking about taking abroad with you on your hoildays. You most go to dog training as soon as possible with it,that way you will have a well behaved dog. They are terrible bin thieves so be prepared for finding your rubbish all over the place. My bin is now in a small cupboard that they cant get into. They are very funny but you will need to keep an eye on your puppy as they are very sneaky & mischevious,You will have many happy days & years. My last dog was 16 when he passed away,my 2 at the moment are 2 & 10 years old. Get it insured so any trips to vet are coverd. If you look up petrait gallery & go into the beagle pictures my 2 are Rosie & Tuggles Best of luck.

I have a beagle myself. they're extremly smart dogs who are used for hunting because of their extremly good nose and require A LOT of attention if they don't recieve then they will find someway to get it. If the dog is a male and hasn't been fixed yet, you might want to try that, it may take some of the aggression away. Beagles often think with their stomachs and they have a tendancy to eat EVERYTHING in sight whether they're meant to or not. from one beagle owner to another good luck.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/wgA3K

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

This dog needs obedience training NOW!!!
he is becoming the boss and it will only get worse

some of his behavior is from boredom, he doesnt understand that not playing with him is punishment.. he needs proper mental stimulation... that means lessons and games - not just "walks"

where did you get him from ?? if from a reputable breeder they will help you out.. if from a pet store.. well then that explains it....

anyhow you need real help not yahoo help, neutering might help somewhat but its a bigger problem you have to deal with

I would invest in the services of a professional trainer with experience with hounds.
I do schutzhund for fun - lots of training - and I have attempted to deal with my parents beagle. . .attempted.
I sure wish you luck! I am not being sarcastic. . .hounds are stubborn and hard to train! My greyhound trained Me, not the other way around!
