not sure if the USA did this, but in other countries they still have any male 18 or over serve in the military (in any sort of position) for 1 or 2 years. They say it makes "MEN" out of our young boys. I think it would be good....how about you?

I think it would be a good idea. It might make people realize they are a part of something bigger than themselves.

Well for one thing the US military is not just for men. Many of our enlistees today are woman. So I don't think you would be able to discriminate - if they did that they would have to draft men and women.

I personally think that an all volunteer army is better and promotes patriotism.

But one candidate in the last election (shall not mention names), wanted to incorporate what he called a 2-year American Required Service (he was very careful not to use the word draft) before getting any college loan from the federal government. No service - no college loan. I personally did not like this idea - but people should be careful what they wish for - there are consequences in every action. Most young people today use the federal government for their college loans.

No it will not be good. Americans live on free will the ablity to choose whatever path to take in life. We are all about freedom. Having a mandatory military service will go against what the founders of this nation was trying to get across.

No it would not be good. We live America so more than likely it would include women (because there would be activists, proclaiming if a man can do it so can a woman) and I frankly dont want any part of it.

I dont think we have that issue in America people that want to join and serve do it and others do something else.

And if you have to join the military to become a "man" there is a problem. You are either a man or not a man and that depends on the individual and how theyreact to life.

Would you agree that women should be forced to go to etiquette school, because that makes them "Ladies"?

Would you agree that marriages should be arranged because that makes them "whole and pure"?

If you dont agree with these things then you shouldnt agree with your question.

We have never had a mandatory military service, in war time there has been a temporary draft. US citizens would never go for it, but it has some merit to have everyone trained in case of
a World War.

HAHAHAHA!!! No. Not for everyone. Troublesome individuals, sure. They need to be brainwashed, and would be better off as the mindless patriotic drones military service attempts to turn people into. Me? I prefer my brain fully functional, thanks.

As someone above me said, yeah, it would have to include females too. Of course, if you're going to propose something like that, you damn well better be ready for military service, yourself.

It would not be good. First it would lessen the quality of our armed forces, simple concept really; would you give 100% to something that you really don't want to do. The American armed forces has always been proud to say that they are a 100% all volunteer force.

No! but we should have military type training in public school to prepare for life and any future need to preserve our way of life!

im joinin the military, and i think any body who is able to but doesnt is a wuss. if you did have mandatory military service (or draft), the people that were "forced to join" would dampen the spirits of everyone else and theyd be pussys and not fight. MARINES!
