I moved here 2 yrs ago. My landlord told me the older lady next door was a good christian woman. She had always been nice to me and was always sweet to my kids. Today she said "I'm forewarning you I'm sitting poison out to kill these cats that keeps pookin in my yard. I hate animals, I don't have a dog in this fence cause I don't like stepping in pook and tracking in my house, so you need to keep your cats inside. me:You can't kill my cats that's cruel. her:I know there's a leash law for dogs, there's one for cats too.she's gonna call the humane society. My cats go outside alot. I can't keep them locked in when their use to outdoors too. It got me all upset. I cried my heart out. I love my cats. I grew up with cats.I'v tried to keep them inside, but they run out everytime the door's open. I have 3 cats, and 2 of them are out right now. They've been in all day, so now I can't get them to come back. What can I do?

If you know it is out there, keep your kitties indoors! I cannot stress this enough. A family member of mine let one of theirs out (one that I was crazy about) & psycho neighbor poisoned him. Even after he was rushed to the vet, it was still too late & he died a horrible death.
Your cats CAN get used to being indoors- buy them several different types of toys & leave your blinds open so they can still do their birdwatching- SAFELY!!!
And for the woman who admits setting out poision- call the police and/or local humane society- what she is doing is cruelty to animals & likely something that can get her prosecuted.

I would tell her that if she poisoned my cats I would burn her house down.... and send her to hell. If that didnt scare the **** out of her than I would call the police and report her for cruelty to animals, and I think also she could be charged with other crimes because it could poison anyone or anything. What an old hag I would harass her everyday for saying that and I would do all manner of things to piss her off. Of course this would never happen to me because I keep my cats inside, I find it hard to believe you can't keep them inside.... I manage with 4 and thats with 2 dogs going in and out all day. Just get a squirt bottle and squirt them when they try to go out the door, otherwise they might eat the poison.
PS it doesnt matter if there are leash laws for cats it is still illegal to put poison outside to purposely kill cats or any other animals....

Please leave the cats indoors. The idea of putting them into a room was a great idea and also building a run outback to where God forbid a loose dog gets into your yard and attacks your cats, this way they will be safe.
If you do think your cat has gotten a hold of some poison rush them to the closest veterinary hospital or emergency clinic. Make sure you find out exactly what type of poison your neighbor is putting out. Some poison does not have a treatment for it, so the clinic would have to call poison control to find out the information.
Everytime your cats come in check their gum color. If it is pale or splotchy (pale and bruised) take them in right away. Acting lethargic, refusal to eat or drink or anything abnormal it would be the best idea to take them in.
Good luck and hopefully everything will be ok.

awe.. what a sweet "good Christian"
if she does poison them and you can prove it.. that is a criminal charge.. I would talk to your police and file a report NOW incase something actually does happen to your pets.. or worse - some kid that eats the poison..
cats are generally smart and dont eat poison (dogs however will eat whatever without smelling it first)
if she is correct and your city has a law that your cats cannot roam uncontrolled you need to fix that - perhaps build a CAT RUN out of 2x4's and chicken wire, put it next to the house so your cat can use the window to go in and out but cannot get out of the cat section.
Really most people who do love their cats know that indoor cats live longer lives so dont let them out at all or do so only in a proper cat run...
also there are worse things that people do to wandering cats than poisoning them - some are picked up and sold to research labs, some are taken to use to train illegal fighting dogs to kill.. some are taken and abandoned in the country where they are either shot by farmers, killed by coyotes or wander until they starve to death...
so keep your cats in if you can...
but also call the cops

check with your local authorities, because even if there is a leash law she cannot put out poison, to intentionally poison domesticated animals, i would also check the surrounding area for poison or anything that looks out of the ordinary,, i am a christian and this is appalling to me that she would claim to be a christian lady and hurt an innocent animal,,,the bible does not teach this and she is terribly wrong that she would do this the the animal or a neighbor....shame on her and you can tell her i said sooooooooo...thats not christian....

Call her in. let her be prosicuted for animal cruelty!! But she is right there is a new law for cats to be on a leash too! besides its better and safer and more recommended that cats be indoor animals, for their safety and health.

Even though letting your cats out might be against the law, if you can prove that she is trying to poison your cats by putting out poisoned food, thats criminal.

You should teach them.....open the door, put the cat in your room, after a month or so....every time when you open that door, they'll go right into you room.
Try it....it works for my cats....

THIS IS AN AGE OLD PROBLEM. ALL YOU CAN DO IS OFFER TO KEEP YOUR NIEGHBORS YARD CLEAN OF CAT POOP. ITS NOT REALLY FAIR FOR HER TO HAVE TO PUT UP WITH YOUR PETS POOP. SO MAKE HER A DEAL THAT YOU WILL CHECK HER YARD EVERY DAY AND CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR OWN PETS. AND SHE WILL HOPEFULLY AGREE TO NOT POISON. THIS IS ONLY FAIR.
