I am starting high school in a small town w/ very few Jewish people (that I know of). I'm not very religious, but my mom says to ask anyone that I think may be Jewish if they are and then invite them over to the house.

So how do I know? I don't understand because what if someone is half Jewish and their last name won't sound Jewish. Also the last girl I asked was Italian and she was really rude about it too.

Thank you.

Do you invite only Jewish people to your house? That is not very nice...

Why won't you just KNOW your classmates first, and then ask them either they are Jewish or not?

This is tricky - there is no absolute guarantee re names. A simple approach would be to talk to a Jewish professional person (e.g. a rabbi) in your town and ask them - they would know immediately. If there is no Jewish organization in town then try calling the nearest town that you know of with a Jewish presence. Generally the Jews in the larger town will also know who their Jewish neighbors are in a small town. All you need is to find one Jewish family - they will know who the others are. Good luck!

that's tough, I'm not Jewish, but I think the best way of going about it is just making friends. don't ask them the day you meet them if they are Jewish...as you learned, some my take offense. instead, make friends, with everyone, even if its the dorky kid who eats alone, but somewhere in a conversation, after you have gotten to know them, say, "oh, well, I'm Jewish, so our family is really excited to meet any other Jewish families, do you know any?" that would be the best way to go about it, then your not offending them, and they may actually be able to help you, if they say no, then just be their friend...who knows, they could be the best friend you have ever had. I speak from experience...on a different level. I moved to Idaho, but whats different is that I am home schooled. that's even harder to find friends...especially your own religion...but we did, actually, at the library....but good luck....and don't be offended by anyone who is mean to you...

Do you attend a Temple in the area? If so, find out if any kids go to your school. Ask the school if there are any Jewish clubs you can belong to. Tell someone you are Jewish and see if they respond with, so and so is Jewish.

I'm not Jewish, but here's a couple of thoughts...

1. Go to temple and see if there's anyone you recognize.
2. Ask your rabbi.
3. Do the secret handshake (just kidding)

nicely, you ought to go on your community temple and be conscious if all of us out of your college is there or attends there, or what you ought to do is communicate about ISRAEL, as a rustic, not a non secular entity, and be conscious who responds nicely or regardless of the reality that, because generally Jews have a significantly better interest. If someone is fascinated, say "are you Jewish or basically worried" or something like that and that is fairly straight forward.

Why do you want the jewish kids to come over? You can go to a Rabbi to ask questions.

Why must you seek out jews?

Are you only allowed to associate with other jews???

That is a problem with humanity... We separate from each other too much.

I must say, that we are only as strong as we are united, and as weak as we are divided.
