i do 45 minutes of cario 5 days a week, alternating between running and the arc trainer. I also walk to and from work every day (3miles in total), and consume less than 1700 calories a day. Im at a normal weight for my height, 17% body fat, but I still have saddle bags :(( what kind of exercises can I do to minimize them? or am I doomed by genetics? I gain all my weight in my lower body.

There is no way to do spot reduction... that being said, have you tried changing your routine??? The body adapts to exercise so challenging your body in a different way may have a different effect. I enjoy interval training along with some yoga type stretches and a bit of pilates. Belly-dancing is another fun way of getting in some cardio. The best thing to do is to change your routine. Sounds like you are in excellent shape, your body may not want to lose anymore weight. There is also a great website at http://www.stumptuous.com/cms/index.php. This site has some great routines for the lower body. Good luck!

This question could have been written by me until a few years ago when I took up cycling. It is, I would say 70% improved. Nothing is ever going to be perfect with the way your and my genes programmed it, but I am pretty happy with my hips now compared to what they were. Clothes fit better too. Took about two months of doing it 5 times a week to notice the improvement.
