I've had Irritable Bowel Syndrome since I was 13 years old. I'm now 45 years old, so believe me, I'm an EXPERT on this subject.
Believe it or not, but most women have this syndrome, but refuse to talk about it. I know of at least (4) four other women who have it and my husband now has it. He used to tease me that we couldn't go out to dinner because I wouldn't even finish and it would be off to the Ladies Room. I used to warn him that it's no good to talk. Now that it happens to him, he's changed his tune. He used to tell me that he didn't understand why I would eat because I only got sick afterwards. I informed him of just how silly his statement was because we all have to eat. Again, now that it's happening to him, every chance I get, I remind him of what he used to say to me and how it made me feel for all those years. He only now realizes the error of his ways.
I don't know why people would make fun of you. This is not something that you asked to have, it's just something that your body has developed. Do you know the old saying: "what goes around comes around"? These people that you are speaking of, will get their up-comance at some point in their lives.
You don't want to be friends with these people at all. They are not any kind of a friend, in any sense of the word. Hold you head up high and ignore them. They are certainly NOT worth your time.
Have a lovely rest of the evening. Keep Smiling

Well people who have this can not hide it very well. Some get really bad gas that hurts horrible. And some have to go to the bathroom right after they eat. This is a horrible disease not only physically but mentally and I think it is really unfair for people to judge others when they have never walked a moment in there shoes. When you hear about people with this disease you should think about the worst case of stomach flue you ever had and that is what they are going threw on a daily basis. My husband laughs it off.
I am sorry that people are not more sympathetic.

I suffer from this terrible disease and it's very hard to hide it on the 5th trip to the bathroom..... only to see the sneers on people's faces.
They don't understand because they don't have it. Not one person I know is understanding.
One theory I have is that they think it's all in your head or stress related and therefore "my fault"? I don't know. Maybe it's something you just can't sympathesize with unless you experience the pain first hand.

Just ignore them. My dad & I have it and its certainly no laughing matter. It gets really bothersome most of the time. If there are people who don't want to be friends with you just because you have IBS, then they're not cut out to be real friends in the first place. There are still people out there who will stick with you no matter what, IBS or no IBS. Hang in there. :)

Why are you telling people that you have IBS?
You might want to share the info with your closest friend but don't broadcast it to everyone. It is your personal business no one elses.

These people don't understood that you don't have to tell someone for them to know you have it. It's certainly not a reason to turn their back on you. I 'll pray for you.
