I have a female cat that cries and whines constantly for food. she is getting proper nutrition and she gets fed dry food, can food and treats EVERYDAY. She wakes me up sometimes just meowing at me and when i get up she runs to her food bowl thats already full. I know she likes can food better than dry but she eats the dry too sometimes. she is already slightly overweight- What can I do about this? Shes more annoying than a baby some days!

She is on a schedule actually, she only gets can food around 12 noon everyday and she only gets treats at night before bed, ITs always been like that but she has access to dry food ALL DAY. If I take away the dry food she gets even worse (i tried it for about 3 days) she will meow constantly and bite me too!

My fixed female cat does this as well. She meows in intervals all through out the day. Like you, I know it is not due to a lack of food or nurturing(attention); she gets plenty of both. She also gets plenty of stimulation with two other cats inside. After much research, I still do not have a satisfying answer to why she does this. My research suggested a variety of possible causes of this behavior, but even after narrowing it down (i.e., not a health problem, not a hunger problem, not in competition with the other cats...), the results were vague and not helpful. Basically, some cats, especially adult females, are more "verbal" than others. Their excessive meowing can be forms of signaling possession of territory, warnings to perceived opponents, hunting behavior, or simple "chatting." Also, some cats are very "high maintenance" in that they require a lot of attention...and even though they may not appear the way we would expect an attention-deprived cat to appear when we respond to their meows, they may still crave it. They like to feel in control...sounds familiar?

Make sure she is on a regular feeding schedule with quality food. Sometimes they do this because they want attention and another reason is because something is wrong and they don't feel well and food just takes the thought and pain away from what they are feeling temporarily. I had this and found my cat was getting a urinary infection and boy did she ever get one full tilt. She was asking for help and I did not know it. I only knew she was driving me nuts for attention and she too, kept running to her bowl. Make sure she has plenty of fresh water and check with the vet and tell vet what kind of food you are feeding and how much. I feed ours, canned twice daily, morn and eve, same tim daily and some quality crunchies in between, stick with quality food, depending on your cats age, buy food for her age as well. Cats stick to a feeding schedule, I call it a fur alarm to eat. But if you are over feeding, the cat may think it is time to eat all the time. Don't spoil her to death. It is easy to do. When she runs to her bowl, put some fresh water down for her if you know she already ate, she will get the hang that everytime she runs to the bowl, she won't be fed. I really would try some attention and a vet check to be sure. In a few days, everything should be normal. Good Luck.

I know someone who has a cat like yours. You should gradually wean her off the canned food, mixing less canned food with dry food every time until she's only eating dry food. Do this over a period of two weeks or more so she doesn't get a shock from a sudden diet change. She probably won't be so eager to get to the food dish all the time if there's only dry food in there and never canned stuff.

get her checked for worms.
stop feeding her all caned foods, dry only!
Cats do not need three meals a day like people. Feed her in the morning a set amount. take the food away after 20 minutes. Again in the evening set out a set amount of food for 20 minutes. She will learn that she only eats during mealtimes and will stop pestering you and she will also learn to eat fast and eat it all and she will loose the extra fat.

She wants you to talk to her and pet her. She really does love you, silly. Take away all her nibbles, she does not need access to food 24/7.
Try some chicken mince, to this add all sorts of cooked vegetables like, pumpkin, cut lettuce, grated carrot, grated cheese. Feed her on some good quality tinned tuna (Mine like Ally) the oil is needed to keep skin and hair quality. Any vegetable will do just not potato.
I will bet you it is more companionship she is craving not the food.
All the best.

I hate to say this, but with everything you have written, it just may be her personality. ?
Try some conditioning - ignore her when she meows and cries for food. Maybe even a blow in the face or a squirt from the water bottle (I aim for over the cat, not at the cat) to get her to move on.
IDK, good luck, though!

Are you feeding her quality cat food? A food like Iams, Purina, Science Diet, and Special Kitty has very little nutritional value and is mostly fillers and chemicals. So its no wonder your cat is meowing, she isnt getting any nutrients!
I recommend buying a food that has real meat or meat meal as most of the first five ingredients. No by-products, and no cancer causing preservatives such as BHT, and BHA. I feed my cats Nutro Natural.

She may be spoiled. Maybe she wants the treats instead of food. Try to get on a schedule so she knows when it's time to eat and will only bother u if its late!

Well my vet tells me not to feed my cat different kinds of foods. If you're going to feed her dry food, only dry food, and canned only canned. She's begging for attention. The only way to stop it is to show her that she only gets dry food. Everytime she whines and runs to the food bowl, spray her with a water bottle. She'll get the idea.

Is it a siamese? Siamese as well as a few other breeds are very vocal. Not just about food. They meow all the time.
