If you are looking for the church spoken of in the Bible, the ONE church Christ died for and calls his body/kingdom, then you need to look for a church that DOES and IS what the Bible describes and says only what the Bible says on:

-How you become a Christian
(hearing the truth, believing it, repenting of sins, confessing the name of Christ, baptism for remission of sins, and living a holy life)

-Its Structure (in article listed below)
"the New Testament teaches that men who meet the qualifications of 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1 are to be appointed by the church members to be elders. Other names for this function in the New Testament are bishops, pastors, shepherds, and overseers (Titus 1:5,7; Acts 20:17,28; 1 Peter 5:1-2)...The name “pastor” did not refer to a preacher in the New Testament, but to an elder...had deacons appointed who were to meet specific God-given qualifications (1 Timothy 3:8-13). ..had teachers, preachers, and evangelists (Ephesians 4:11; 2 Timothy 4:5; James 3:1). These men taught and preached Christian doctrine to non-Christian and Christian alike. Female Bible teachers taught women and children (Titus 2:4). All of the members participated together in the work and worship of the church in an effort to glorify God in their lives."

-How you worship
"...that first-century churches engaged in five worship activities on Sunday...
1. "met together for the Lord’s Supper Matthew 26:26-29; Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 10:16-21; 11:20-34). Christians observed the Lord’s Supper every Sunday and only on Sunday.

2. engaged in prayer together (Acts 2:42; 1 Timothy 2:1-8).

3. Christians sang religious songs together (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16).

4. participated in Bible study, either by public reading of the Scriptures or as taught by a preacher or teacher (1 Timothy 4:13; 2 Timothy 4:1-4; Titus 2:15).

5. contributed their money on the first day of the week as a treasury from which the Lord’s work could be carried out (1 Corinthians 16:1-2).

-What they follow
(should be Bible ONLY, not any other man made doctrines/commands/books etc.)

Believe what the Bible says:
It is the inspired Word of God
Christ is the only son of God
He died for your sins
He rose from the dead
He's coming back again

I hope this helps to get you started in the right direction :-)

Basic Christian beliefs are Creation, Trinity. Believing that Jesus was born of a virgin, was crucified and died, rose the third day and ascended into Heaven. Believers Baptism. The belief that during communion, wine and bread are just wine and bread, not true blood and flesh.

I would look for an Independent, Fundamental, Bible believing Christian Church. I'm a Baptist. Look for a Church that has programs for your children and for you. Go to a couple different Churches then pray about them.

I would encourage you to check out a few non-denominational or Baptist churches in your area, or even a Messianic Jewish group. You don't have to believe everything they teach, but fellowshipping with believers is important.

Being that you are coming from Mormonism, you may be more inclined towards a "Hebrew roots" life. If so, visit a Messianic Jewish group in your area...it may be what you're looking for. Also, you may want to check out Isarlaism (which is the non-Jewish counterpart to Messianic Judaism). I'm Isarlaean, and I couldn't be happier with my walk with YHWH and my faith in Yeshua the Messiah.

I pray the Spirit leads you to where you can meet some great people and strengthen your relationship with the Father.

If you're interested in Messianic Judaism or Isarlaism, check out the links below:

I use the Nicene Creed as a guideline for the basic Christian beliefs. The Nicene Creed was established at the council of Nicea in 325 by a group of over 300 pastors from all over the Christian world at the time. It has been the basis for pretty much every Christian creed or confession sense then under what would be considered orthodox (normal) Christianity. Here it reads:

We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Creed has several things of note:

*A triune God. (Father, Son, Holy Spirit)
*The deity of Christ
*That God created everything
*The Virgin Birth and incarnation of Jesus
*The Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus
*The forgiveness of Sin through Jesus (this is the 1 baptism)
*The universal (catholic means universal) church of all Christians
*The future resurrection of men in the future.

Now these would be considered to be basic beliefs. Naturally, denominations will tack on different beliefs, but most would probably be agree that these are what we all hold in common.

Congratulations for leaving the LDS's.
The core beliefs of Christianity as I see them are:

1. Believing that God exists, in three distinct persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
2. Believing that man is born with a sin nature and is in rebellion against God. Believing that sin leads to death.
3. Believing that the only remedy for this problem, is the sacrificial death of one who is not stained by sin.
4. Believing that person is Jesus, who is God, very God, from beginning to end. Believing He was born of a virgin, lived the perfect life, died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins, and rose again.
5. Believing the Scriptures are inerrant in history, doctrine and ethics.
6.Believing that we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.

I would search for a church that teaches from the Bible, not mans opinions. Ask the pastor of a church you are considering if he believes these things, if yes, you are probably in a good place, if not, move on.
Hope this helps.

The basic Christian beliefs are that God (Yahweh) is the creator of everything. He has a Son, named Jesus (Yeshua), who came to Earth and died on a Roman cross to be our eternal sacrifice for our sins. After we accept His sacrifice, and hand our lives over to Him, the Holy Spirit comes to live in our hearts and guide us. Beyond that, the denominations differ.
