How long can a person stay for maximum period in other countries i.e. ones he away from Canada after getting permanent resident status that is usually valid for 5 years from the date of issue.

Just 6 months, after that, you lost your permanent resident status.
But if you became citizen, you are allowed to stay outside Canada all the time you want or need.
