I gather it's not really about do you want to move to Alaska, but are you prepared to be a military wife. Yes, you can expect to move around a lot. And a lot of people who thought they were done with Iraq are getting sent back. You definitely need to be a strong, independent woman.
As far as Alaska specifically... it is a major PITA to fly from Alaska to visit anyone outside. It takes a whole day, which can be a special pain if your daughter is very young. Jobs aren't plentiful, either, if you need to work.
Where in Alaska? If it's Anchorage, it's actually quite a nice little city. I mean, not if you're used to New York or Chicago or something, but life is pretty much like any other small city. Any small city where moose walk through your yard. Nice if you're an outdoors kind of person. If it's Fairbanks, though, that might be too much for me. I need at least one Costco (two in Anchorage). And I need less mosquitos. I'd have to be REALLY in love for that, with a guarantee it would only be three years!

I think Alaska is such a beautiful place, so very picturesque: lakes and forests everywhere. It is unpolluted too.
If i loved the guy i would go, absolutely. You said he is adopting your daughter, he must be a nice person. Alaska could be so much fun, something different in your life.
There is no state sales tax and some other priviledges.
It is just for 3 years. You can talk to your relatives and friends online with a web camera.
Research info about Alaska, see some pictures and listen to your heart when deciding!
Cheers!

A Military spouse can be a vital support system for a troop and us all. If you care enough about this guy, and have the co rage to travel to a beautiful part of the con try and learn new things and meet new people. Then go for it! Weigh that against what would life would be like staying home. But this is something you have to decide for your self. Are you up to it?

wow i think we're living the same life. My BF is in Afghanistan and when he comes back we're getting married and thinking about Alaska...actually im opposed to it. I read its expensive and its ALaSKA for gods sake. But if he doesnt have a choice then the only choice is up to you. Is he the man of your dreams?.Will you get more out of going with him ? what will you life be like without him in your present town? You have to take those things into consideration.

Thats the reality of being a military wife...u really cant have anyone else decide for u, for me personally when I married my husband, I knew I'd be willing to go wherever he got sent, that's what you sign up for when you marry a military man..and thats the reality of the military life, you will just have to pick up and move everything.
Good luck with your decision!

If you were really to get married you would know the answer to this question. So examine your life more closely. He sounds like a nice guy to me.

Welcome to the life of a military wife!! if you aren't ready to move all over the place and constantly pack up and leave people behind, think twice about marrying him.

depends on what you have keeping you here. Alaska is cold, but it is also pretty, and you don't pay tax.
