Here is the story of Buddha's Death:
When Buddha was around 80 years old he went to a small village. Whenever he stopped somewhere for the night many people vied for the honor of giving him food and shelter. However, the lord that usually took him in had wagon troubles so a poor man who was a great admirer of Buddha got there first and Buddha could not reject his offer. However, the man was so poor he often went into the forest to gather mushrooms for his meals. The meal he offered Buddha was rice with these mushrooms. Buddha ate it and he thought it was bitter but he did not say so because the man had been so kind to him and thanked him graciously. Later that day he fell ill with food poisoning, and his many disciples knew that at his old age it would surely kill him. They began to cry but Buddha told them "If you morn for me I have surely taught you nothing". He laid down for his final rest, but first his disciple and cousin Ananda asked him "Why did you do it? You knew they could have killed you? Why?". And Buddha replied in his last words "Because this man accepted me into his home with more love, more compassion, than anyone else. It was worth it". After that Buddha initiated The Last Ecxperiment and severed the last part of him that remained on earth through meditation, dieing peacefully and surrounded by his disciples.
Also, never listen to people like soulsista and button, they obviously have no idea what they are talking about and for some reason can't understand that Buddha was a man and is not worshipped, just respected as a great teacher. Such an attitude is decidedly un-christian. Judge not lest ye be judged? WWJD?

The Buddha history knew is a personality who die from old age of 80 years, as all humans must die. In truth, the Buddha is a manifestation of an enlightened being who, out of compassion for the suffering existences, appear as the Prince Siddhartha who became enlightened and was called the Buddha. An enlightened person (pure consciousness) exists for eternity. He would be like a magician who conjures up things to entertain his audience. These things are but illusionory projections. The analogy here is that the Buddha is the magician and the things are the myriad existences we experienced including our physical selves. The Buddha, like this magician do not "die" like the things he conjured up do disappear after the entertaining.

He was offered a mushroom that killed him . Yes he was poisoned ! But he died with equanimity.
"at the age of 80, the Buddha announced that he would soon enter Parinirvana or the final deathless state abandoning the earthly body. After this, the Buddha ate his last meal, which, according to different translations, was either a mushroom delicacy or soft pork, which he had received as an offering from a blacksmith named Cunda. Falling violently ill, Buddha instructed his attendant Änanda to convince Cunda that the meal eaten at his place had nothing to do with his passing and that his meal would be a source of the greatest merit"

Various accounts exist.
Best known is that the Buddha Gautama (the Tathagata) died in the company of his disciiple Ananda and some religious teachers. He left them with humor and with a final lesson.
He passed through a series of four progressively deeper trances and into the the cessation of perception and sensation, and then back into the world, before entering Nirvana.

Button and soulsista apparently don't know the first thing about Buddhism, or they would know that Buddha is not a god, and that there's such a thing as Christian Buddhists, and many, many atheist Buddhists.
Here's an article that answers your question...

Buddha died from a roundhouse kick to the head. He stole the idea of the Eightfold Path from Chuck Norris. Let this be a lesson for all of us.

Ancient texts weave two stories about the Lord Buddha's death. Was it planned and willed by the Buddha, or was it food poisoning, or something else altogether

He didnt. He became 'enlightened' or reached nirvana by permanently overcoming anger, greed, and ignorance, and has achieved complete liberation from suffering.
