We had to do that in ROTC @ dining out night. What's in the Grog Bowl? I heard many nasty things, & the drink is DISGUSTING!

There is no recipe, per se, for Grog. It is designed, as the responder earlier mentioned, to punish those who violate customs and courtesies.

It's all in good fun, and those who go to the grog bowl, learn quickly the rules of the event. (Experience is the best teacher.)

However, in the Fleet, all bets are off. Last Dining Out I attended.. we watched them make the Grog. You can be sure I was on my best behavior and didn't do ANYTHING that would get me a trip to the Grog Bowl. Although I must admit, if we spouses/sweethearts were naughty, they sent our escort to drink in our place...

you answered your own question -- Dining-Out/Dining-In nights (events). Yes, it can be designed to taste nasty, and it is for breeching the rules of decorum and courtesy that is required of all Military when attending these social events. Believe me, there is no alcohol in the grog - - just a mix of juices, sodas, waters, food coloring, sometimes some candy is floating in it, etc at the JROTC level. So nothing noxious is allowed.
