is the 'mark of cain' white skin? Did God punish one of Noahs sons with white skin? is it just natural selection?

sun light creates vitamin D in the body. white skin abosrbs more sun light so as to make this vitamin D. Black skin doesnt need as much sun light for it. People in iraq can be black, white or brown. Living there doesnt change skin color. Can also have alot to do with diet. Saying back people are black because they are out in the sun often if just plain stupidity. rain forest are not known for their estreme sun light.

wow . some of you say im confused. Look at these answers, they are amazingly confusing. 'Adam & Eve are not literal but are literal'. 'Adam 7 Eve had all the skin colors', or this common one ' Adam & Eve lived in the middle east so they would have been middle eastern' ..... re Read the farken question. Where did white people come from then??? And why cant Adam & Eve be BLACK as AFRICAN?? makes more sense. As to the importance on skin color, There isnt any...... its a farken question concerning biblical understanding of origins. something like that anyway. no need to take this question soooo personally.

Well according to recent scientific studies all humans originate out of africa and yes, all humans were originally black. Over long periods of time cell mutaion takes place and that is why there is so amny different races, If Adam and Eve ever existed they would have been living somewhere in South East Africa about 50 thousand years ago because that is where and how old the most ancient "modern" humanoid skeleton was found.
(I don't believe there were ever an adam and Eve though.)

DNA testing has determined that all people on earth came from two black people in Africa. The DNA tests show that the gene that determines color is normal in black people and mutated in white people. I leave that up to other scientists to tell us how that came about. You may get more details on this subject from the ABC News website that reported the findings about a month or two ago. Perhaps an internet search can locate the news item for you.
Scientist were studying the genetics of the zebra fish and accidentally made this discovery in the genes. They then took a look at the human genome and found that gene SLC24A5 has the same variation in the european population.

Adam and Eve were probably dark skinned but not black. I think most likely they looked middle eastern... And white skin is an adaptation to living in the colder climate. It allows the body to absorb more vitamins from the sun in places where ultraviolet light is low, where as dark skin blocks vitamins from the sun in climates where ultraviolet light is plenty.

No one said they were black and no one said they were white. The Bible never mentions skin color as any specific mark. A few religious sects think the marking of the skin meant God changed Cain to be black but there is no Biblical basis to believe this nor is it a common Christian teaching at all.

Don't be so literal. Adam and Eve is a parable for the creation of man by God. You are correct that IF it were a factual tale that the "first humans" were probably of darker skin (considering the region the world) but they would not have been "black" as in African American. Most likely Muslim/Arab descent.
But don't get so wrapped up in literal translation that you lose the true meaning behind God's word.

Skin color changes with the native climate. The more the sun, the darker the skin needed, less sun, less color. It really has more to do with natural selection than with much of anything else.

Ok if Adam and Eve were the only two people God created then were all insest children. After so much insest in the world I guess that's where the different colors of people come from. In all it don't really matter who is white and who is black all that matter's is we are all the same.

If you choose to take this particular creation story literally, then the only answer would be that they were created with all the genetic coding for all characteristics for all races that for whatever reason appeared only in later generations.
