the purpose of storing wine horiz is to keep the cork moist so that the wine can breath

while more of the modest priced products have a plastic cork, in any case, you would not have to store champgn horiz because it is pressurized and is not going to breathe in the same way wine would

ALSO the proper way to open a bottlee of champgn without popping someones eye out is to use a handcloth, cover the cork and hold tight, while twisting the bottle off of the cork (instead of the cork off of the bottle), works like a charm

Storing Champagne

Anything that has a cork should be stored horizontally. If it is stored vertically the cork could dry out and be difficult to remove or break apart and leave pieces in the bottle. If it has a plastic stopper you can store it either way.

Storing Champagne horizontal simply keeps the cork on the bottle moist. You can store it vertical if you like, but the cork may dry and become brittle ... and difficult to remove.

If it's a cork stopper, it is even more important to keep the cork moist. if it drys out even a little, pressure will force gas out of the bottle and it will lose its fizz.

The the stopper is a real cork, you have to keep it from drying out.

You are supposed to drink champaign in the first couple years, since aging champaign has no positive effect. Or so I was told.
