I personally have a pit bull that i have raised from a puppy and she is a house dog she is really friendly and a happy dog,ive had her for 3 years now and she has never bitten anyone and i raise her around my 2 children that are small..they love her and she loves them.I think its all about how you treat the dog and raise it.I think everyone gives these dogs a terrible name because of a few out there who only want them to breed them and fight them.

First, dogs do not just "turn". There are always signs but people are often too blind to see them.
And what do you mean by "pit bull"? Pit bull is not a breed. It can refer to American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers and any dog with a mix of one. What sort of papers did this puppy come with?
Anyways, pit bull breeds have been selectively bred for hundreds of generations to never offer to bite a person. They are one of very few breeds to have been purposefully bred for that trait. They can be dog aggressive though (completely different from human aggression!).
Bully breeds are also very tough due to their dog fighting heritage. They have a high tolerance for any pain that a child would unwittingly dole out. Thus they are that much less likely to bite than other breeds. They were once called the "Nanny dog" due to how wonderful they were with children. And Pete the Pup from the Little Rascals was a dual registered American Pit Bull Terrier and AmStaff. If I had to choose a breed to raise kids around it would definitely be a pit bull breed.
Finally, you NEED to go do some research of your own! Pick up a book about pit bulls, along with the two Bully Breed magazines that can be found at petsores. More information can be found here:

I have 2 children ages 5 and 3. I also have a pitbull. He is soooo gentle. He is a very good dog. He has a mean bark, but he is just a big baby. He is so good with my kids and they even lay on him...pull his ears....ect. He just acts like he doesn't care (and no I don't let my kids torture our dogs....all kids have to be tought to "be nice to animals") His name is Gunner. He would never hurt anyone. I doubt he would even know how. We got him when he was 8 weeks old. Any dogs can turn on you if they were raised wrongly. But if you raise a dog in a kind , loving , caring home and raise it with your kids then they wont be mean. The only reason that people think that they are mean is because alot of people get them and raise them to be guard dogs....wich means they will attack! So people pretty much stereotype pitbulls. So i would highly recommend this breed as a family pet.

Any breed of dog can turn and bite! They can be raised in the most loving home, but if you hurt them they can and will bite. I'm talking anything from a Chihuahua to a Great Dane. If you raise your puppy and train your puppy and your children to respect the puppy then you will be okay. I have seen some very very good pits, but it took training for everyone to do it.

Honestly my advise is to get rid of the dog, and not because I hate Pits because I have one and 3 kids but because if you are that afraid and paranoid you are not the right kind of owner for the dog. A true Pit bull lover knows that the media has made these dogs out to be these blood thirsty animals just waiting for you to turn your back so it can eat your kids. This is not true.
A well bred, and raise Pit is the BEST dog ever. Here is why,,,,
1. High pain tolerance.
this trait makes them more reliable around small children because they are not prone to bite because they are being poked, proded or anything else.
Mine has had his tail pulled, butt bitten by my daughter who was 2 at the time because he would not move out of her way. his toes pulled apart, ears pulled, eyes pulled, rode like a horse, and Hard steel tonka trucks ran into him while he slept. He has never shown the slightest incling to bite. he just gets up and moves or lays there and takes it.
So get rid of the dog and give it to someone who understands the breed if you are that worried, otherwise, trust yourself that you can judge the dog as an individual and know that it is up to you on how it turns out.

My T-bone has a 5 year and a 3 year old to play with, and he has yet to turn. There seem to ba alot of pitts in my community, and you can tell just by walking up to them how they're treated. The ones who are loved have nothing but love to give. Mine plays with other pitts, golden labs, and even a pug! Love them and they will not turn on you.

My own opinion is it depends on the dog.I have known pitt bulls that have turned and others who didn't. I think it depends on how they are raised, gender, and temperment of each individual animal. For instance if the puppy grows up with the kids around and it knows the kids(good and bad habits) it is least likely to turn. But there are instances in which it was just ornery that day and decided to just attack the first person to displease or hurt it. But if your kids are very small I would think to get a less aggressive dog.
My sister had two pitts the female was raised as a puppy around our kids and those of my other sister. We never had any problem so far with her. She is loving and sweet even once she had her litter. The male on the other hand was good with everyone but one day he was trying to get attention and noone was giving it to him. When my brother went to play with him he decided to bite him. Though he had never did this before my sister decided to get rid of him. http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/americanpitbull.htm
This is a site you can read up on the behavior of the breed to help you make your decision. Good Luck!

okay.. first, it is an American Pit Bull Terrier if it is "pure" or at least pure for UKC/ADBA records. And no they don't just "turn", I have owned this breed my entire life and dogs don't turn. If they are raised irresponsibly, beaten or neglected they can have issues just like any other (most) american dogs. Make sure your dogs know that your kids are pack leaders as well, read Cesar Millans book "Cesars Way". It has a chapter dedicated to this.

If you have 2 children and you have not considered this, then why did you choose a pit bull?
Pit Bulls are fully capable of being loved and being loving loyal companions, but sometimes you have to be willing to work out the kinks with it and be willing to give them more time and attention.
What now, you're scared and you're ready to pawn this dog off like an old pair of shoes?

finished blooded it truly is solid . there is basically a million genuine Pit Bull it is the yankee Pit Bull Terrier APBT for short so which you remember . one thank you to tell is thru having evidence that the organic Bred documents from the breeder that has documents of their canine being organic bred . If its that important have a DNA try executed .DNA does not lie .the genuine APBT is usually a splash taller and is extra lean , no longer stocky and rounded like an ABD.
