Corn, potatoes, and fish. Any native food s to the Americas were eaten by native people. The most advanced people's had rudimentary forms of preparation such as grinding into meal flour, stewing and roasting. In South America check out use of peppers and chocolates - a more advanced culinary art. North America wasn’t exactly Paris. Corn Meal and Popcorn are both native dishes. Make some Jiffy Pop. Also ground acorns, any native bird roasted or stewed such as Turkey. Check early American diaries. Oh, corn meal made into a water pudding with maple syrup. You really need to narrow this down to a people and a place. Early pilgrim diaries make notice of dishes they’ve learned from the ‘Indians.’ Most East coast peoples being long dead or assimilated. Northern peoples are going to be hard to replicate. A lot of the thousands of tribes basically foraged, these were stone age people. Try Central and South American civilizations - especially chocolate drinks and sweet peppers etc. Easiest is still popcorn (no butter or salt on it)

If you want to give the school the biggest surprise, tell her to bring popcorn. They ate mainly corn, fish, buffalo, and a few other assortments of veggies, but popcorn will be the biggest surprise the school will ever see. You see, the Native Americans threw in some dried kernels from a piece of maize into a pot over fire and well, it "popped"!

Well, I doubt you want to go out to hunt buffalo or deer and butcher it, hanging it to dry into jerky and tan the hide. Concentrate on roasted versions corn, yams and squash.
