Ok I'm not sure what a Japanese Sprtiz is...I'm sure they area beautiful dog by the way. My grandfather raises Sheeba Enews which are also a Japanese dog, they are a type of Japanese Terrier.

Anyway...your dog...might have hot spots. Is it in the same place everytime? Keep a close eye on these spots, they may be hot spots. These are areas where the dog bites and scratches like crazy until a sore appears, and often they will make themselves bleed. I have an American Rat Terrier who is currently suffering from a Hot Spot and they are a PAIN the butt to get rid of. My poor dog I feel so sorry for him!

Has your dog had flea treatments? If not you might give the dog a flea bath, and apply some front line and see if it helps.

Dogs are going to naturally itch. People get itchy too, our scalps get dry when weather changes as do dogs. Make sure you have a conditioning shampoo that is made for your dogs fur.

I would suggest taking your lovely pup to the vet just to make sure everything is A ok in his furry world.

YES YOUR DOG COULD BE ALLERGIC TO A NUMBER OF THINGS INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. HAVE U GIVEN YOUR DOG ANY NEW FOOD OR SNACKS? USED A DIFFERENT SHAMPOO, TAKEN IT INTO A NEW LOCATION? PUT ANYTHING ON YOUR CARPET OR BEDDING? ALSO YOUR DOG COULD HAVE JUST BEEN BITTEN BY A FLEA OR TICK AND BE ALLERGIC TO THE BITE. IT COULD TAKE A COUPLE OF WEEKS FOR THE ITCHING TO STOP. GO TO THE VET THEY CAN GIVE YOU MEDICINE TO HELP W THE ITCHING. IT COULD ALSO BE SOMETHING CALLED A HOT SPOT ALL DOGS CAN GET THIS. IT RED AND PATCHY DRY SKIN YOU CAN SEE FLACKS THIS HAPPENS ALOT IN THE SUMMER ESPECIALLY WITH DOGS THAT HAVE ALOT OF HAIR BECAUSE AIR CANNOT GET TO THE AREA THEIR BITING HOPE THIS HELPS YOU

Sounds like dry skin to me. Go to the vet or pet store and ask for something that will help with dry skin.
Feed your dog eggs and a food that has a lot of nutrients and protein ( not cheap food) and make sure you are using a mild soap to bath him in.

Try the dry skin thing first...a product like Sulfodene (i think you can find this at any wal-mart type store) has been around a long time and should help if it is just dry skin. My dog gets itchy and this seems to help her even though she hates the smell. Good luck!

It is possible for dogs to have allergic reactions you should take it to a vet to see.

It could have obsessive compulsive disorder with scratching or maybe just dirty... When did you last give him a bath?

Take him to the vet to get it checked out- it's probably just some dry skin.

Also, some dogs have allergies to certain dog foods, which could be causing your dog to have a sensitive skin problem.

My dogs both have allergies. it causes a skin irritation sometimes you might see bumps on them but it comes from the grass and weather. My vet told me to give them One Benadryl (regular over the counter Benadryl) Twice a day. you'll see results in about a day. Good luck, hope it works for you as well.

Oh yeah, when you give your dog the pills, don't let them chew it, it's a time capsule release, open it's mouth and stick it in the back of its mouth . then massage its throat to get it to swallow.

I asked my vet the same question? I have "Yorkie" and the hairs in his ears grow very deep. They have to be plucked out. This is a six month old puppy and it took three of us to hold him down. It was very painful for him. It is the hair in the ear that is driving him nuts. He is 100% better and not scratching..

Dogs can have allergies just like people do. It can be to any food, or anything, just like people. It could be dry skin, or fleas.

I would get it checked out by a vet.

Maybe your dog likes the scratching sensation, try massaging your dog sometimes and see if the scratching will be less.
