The only studies I've seen that indicate neuron loss from cannabis smoke was done in the seventies on rhesus monkeys, administering several ounces at a time through gas masks over a period of several minutes.
The experimentors failed to adjust for a lack of oxygen intake by the monkeys while they were being gassed with ridiculous amounts of smoke!
Based on this, smoking an ounce or more of anything a day will cause brain damage due to OXYGEN DEPRIVATION?
SO TELL ME, WILL CANNABINOIDS THEMSELVES DAMAGE NEURAL TISSUE?

All the yes's are backless and all the no's are explained.
That WAS the question.
I need something with the yes's, besides a botched experiment from the seventies.

No marijuana does not kill brain cells or retard the brain it is a proven fact that marijuana does not kill brain cells even in users who smoke for years, even in really high doses.

It's hard to explain the short term memory loss without the death or severe damage to cells in the brain, however as you mentioned the only studies done were designed to paint marijuana as a killer drug, which is nothing but a big fat lie. No one anywhere EVER in the history of marijuana use and abuse has ever died as a direct result of an overdose... it just doesn't happen. Further research is needed to declare definitively whether or not there is permanent brain cell damage or not. Alcohol on the other hand kills brain cells the way Himmler killed Jews. And it can kill you if you drink too much (alcohol poisoning).

Recent studies suggest that cannabinoids help to protect and even regenerate brain cells.

I once heard that marijuana doesn't actually kill brain cells, but they are lined with THC and basically "hibernate"--if someone stops smoking pot, the brain cells can eventually function again. On a side note, I have heard that sleep deprivation kills brain cells!

Not marihuana itself, but when you deprive O2 from your brain long enough to get high, it does. To my knowledge cigarette smoking destroys as many IF not more that a joint! After all a regular smokers smokes pack and a half a day and rare people have that much marihuana on their hands....

Well, based on the intelligence and decreased brain function I've seen from many "casual" pot smokers after years of enjoyment...I'd say, yes. And I know quite a few, too.

yes, and don't believe they start functioning again if you stop smoking, brain cells or any nerve cells for that matter do not regenerate
