Why is it that Atheists can be happy in their choice not to believe in a God, but Christians seem to base much of their happiness on their beliefs?

there are a lot of unhappy christians. trust me. like those still backsliding.

Biblically speaking, "happy" is most often associated with being blessed. It seems so many pursue happiness to the detriment of other more important qualities. One can be happy today, depressed tomorrow, it is such a fleeting feeling. God is not really interested in us being "happy" as the world knows it, He is interested in growing us to conform to the likeness of His Son. If I experience "happiness", I prefer it in the Biblical way, being blessed of God. What Christians should experience as an ongoing thing is joy. I truly doubt that anyone who does not know Christ can experience true, deep joy.

so what youre saying is that an atheist can be happy whether or not they believe in god, but a christian can only be happy when they believe in god?
makes sense to me. as for why, i dont know.

Everyone believes in God. They just refer to God in different names. Different cultures (or upbringings) require different ways to make people believe. The methods are different but this does not mean that there are many different Gods.
God lives in the heart of everyone. No one should question this.

I doubt that beliefs has much to do with whether we are happy or sad. Life has its good moments and its bad. those that are sad during the good times are pessimists.

Why not? whats wrong with being happy because we believe in Christ Jesus?............................Nothing. but maybe the Atheists would be happier if they believed in God.
