2 ripe avocados
½ red onion, minced (about 1/2 cup)
1-2 serrano chiles, stems and seeds removed, minced
2 tablespoons cilantro leaves, finely chopped
1 tablespoon of fresh lime or lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon coarse salt
A dash of freshly grated black pepper
1/2 ripe tomato, seeds and pulp removed, chopped

That's my recipe, I added a bit more lime juice, but it's still bland, plenty spicy, but no zip. Should I add garlic?

I would start by adding more salt, than lime and lemon juice, another 1/2 to whole serrano chiles. Are you sure your avocado was ripe?

I use garlic powder in mine...start with a small amt and then taste it as you go. I always throw in a couple teaspoons of salsa too!
