I only know one Mormon family, but if they are represent the rest of the Mormon community, then I would love them all. They open their home to me in Utah every year when I take my vacation. From them I have re-learned the beauty of the earth and WHO made this earth.
They take their faith seriously and are very dedicated to it. They give of themselves completely. Each of their two sons have signed on to give two years of their lives to work far away from home for people less fortunate than themselves (hurricane victims, etc.) after they graduate from high school.
They are wonderful people and have never, ever expressed any complaints about my own religion.
So, in my book, Mormons are great. People who hate Mormons in general just need to educate themselves about what the Mormon religion is today.

I am a Christian. I really admire your sense of community. I think you are right about the polygamist thing, I think it really offends some people. I thought that it was still an option that some people practice. A recent book came out, it was called Under The Banner of Heaven. This book was about a murder within the Mormon community. The book spoke of not just polygamy but incest. Young girls were married off to family members. Oh well, people hate Christians also.

I was raised Mormon, and I left when I was 17. I don't hate Mormons personally, but I really dislike the belief system. The reason I left was because of how Mormonism regards women. In the Mormon religion, women are their husband's wives and their children's mothers, with no identity of their own. Women have no religious power, and when Judgment Day comes, God won't raise both the men and women. God only raises the men, and if the men think their wives have been virtuous enough, they raise their wives by calling out a special name that was given in a temple ceremony. A woman is at the mercy of everything in Mormonism. A woman is supposed to marry young, have as many children as possible, and be a homemaker to boot. She is expected to devote all her time to her children, her family, and the church without anything for herself.

I'm mormon too, and I don't get it, so sorry I can't answer.
But you know what I have to say to the whole polygamy thing, especially to other Christains? There was SO much polygamy in the Old Testament. King David, hello....(just to mention ONE name) We by no means made it up, and it was stopped many, many, many years ago.
Although, I really do think it comes from either a whole dislike of "clean living" if you want to call it that, and an overall misunderstanding about what we believe and what we practice and why. If people took some time to try to be tolerant and understand our point of view, instead of trying to teach us and everyone else what we "really beleive" (LIES and twisted truths out of context), then maybe they can actually love one another (including Mormons) like Christ taught them to do.

Anyone that calls themself a Christian and hates another person is not practicing true Christianity. I have had neighbors and coworkers that are Mormons, my wife's doctor is a Mormon and I have always found them to be very nice people that behave well and have a genuine concern for their fellowman. Maybe what was mentioned above. Perhaps the stigma of polygamy? Perhaps the teachings from the Book of Mormon? I have even heard people holler, "SALAMANDER" at my neighbor. MAybe some people are just plain hateful and narrow minded. Very sad.

I don't know. I've personally never met a Mormon, to my knowledge.
Do Mormons go door to door like Jeh.Witnesses? That's REALLY annoying - that might be why.
And there are people who claim to be Mormons who really are practicing polygamy, with some "wives" being as young as 12 or 13. Whether they're really Mormons or not doesn't matter - that may be what the general public is hearing and believing.

I don't think most people hate you. I think the polygamy thing probably didn't help the religions credibility any though.
Probably the most Christians really have a hard time believing
the Mormons bibles history of where it came from.
I really like the idea the Mormons have about keeping supplies
for their families for if when hard times might come.
More Americans should think like that., And then we wouldn't have
had the debacle of Katrina we did last year.

Because you don't follow the Bible. You believe that it is corrupted. You call yourself Christians and yet you don't follow the Word of God. You get your religion from a man who can be classified as legally insane. Do you really believe what he said about how he got his visions?
You claim that Joseph Smith was a prophet, correct? If he was a prophet sent from God, then all of his prophecies would've became true. Here's one that didn't: Joseph Smith claimed that before 1891, and before he reached the age of 85, Jesus Christ would return. Well, Joseph Smith did not reach the age of 85 - he was murdered on the 27th of July 1844. And we know that Jesus Christ didn't return before 1891, bringing an end to the present world order.
Here's another example: Smith prophesied in 1832 concerning the American civil war that the British would get involved and the war would extend to all nations. This is just one of his false prophecies concerning the American civil war. Smith also predicted the demise of the government of the state of Missouri which had displeased him - this never happened. He prophesied that the civil war would not result in the freedom of 'Ham' - this could not happen until the millenium according to Smith. Here again Smith was demonstrating just what a false prophet he was.
And yet, you claim him to be a prophet of God. Hmmm...I see a false prophet. Speciafically, I see a cult leader.
Oh yeah, didn't Jospeh Smith say that in the 13 basic beliefs that the Book of Mormon to be the word of God and yet, this coming from a guy who was a false prophet. You believe that the word of God comes from a man who has been proven to be a false prophet. Does that make any sense to you? It doens't to me. God's Word is perfect and God does not come through false prophets.
We look down upon you because you are following a proven false prophet. That and you come knocking at our doors when we are busy and then you have a tendency to not leave when we tell you to. You try to "sell" your religion to us like a salesman going door to door. If your religion was true, you wouldn't have sell it to people.

The only thing I can think of is that Mormons tend to appear to be a bit, well, nerdy.
I mean, where do you think the Geek Squad got its uniform? -Just kidding.
I had a couple of Mormon guys call on me some years ago, and I asked them in specifically because I knew so little about the LDS, and was curious. I figured, get your information from the horse's mouth.
I found them (and their pals) kind, sincere and decent...but a *little* bit nerdy!

I'm a Catholic and I don't think badly of Mormons. There are some differences , but we both believe in God and Jesus Christ is our saviour. Some groups are so incredibly intolerant it is upsetting. I don't hate you and I realize that polygamists are not the norm.
