Just use a mix. Duncan Hines is the best. Follow their directions and do NOT overbake it. If it has risen throughout and "bounces back" slightly and doesn't dent in when you gently press the top and center, it's done.

BUT, you must make real frosting.

1 box powdered sugar
1 stick of softened salted butter
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 cup milk (add droplets after this if it's still too thick)

Mix together until creamy. Frost the cake only after it has cooled. Two-layer cakes are the hardest to pull off, it's easiest to bake in a 9x13 airbake pan (with the double layer of metal).

YUM!!

Get carfare, call a cab, have him wait outside the local bakery while you pay for a delicious cake of your choice.
Get back in the cab, go back to your flat, pay the cabbie, put the cake on the counter and VOILA!
You have just baked your very first cake!

Good girl! Now you've worked really really hard, so go sit down and put your feet up!
