OY gavalt!.. Ok.. God never said be married. he said "pick one". you don't need to be married you just need act married.. its al through the bible. "marriage" was created in medieval times by royalty to cement relations with forein nations and declare dencendance to the throne. The Catholic Church quickly ordained this ( probably to avoid beheading) and it was indoctrinated into the bible..umm lets talk about catholisism for a sec. They altered many things in the bible.. Like making Mary Magdoline into a whore when in fact she was Jesus's wife, Oh and Adam was married to Lilith before Eve.. Many things they changed not counting on forensic history and science..lol.. Now you know why the Lilith fair is sorely scorned by Christianity... So there you have it, royalty created it and NO where in the bible does it say you have to be married and God said it

I don't know the answers to any of your queries. But I'd have to say, who cares. Shouldn't marriage be about love and devotion? What more do you need? Directives mandated by some fairy tale hold zero weight in my book (puny I know).

I'll check back. Deliver your wisdom.

I know in olden times marriages were sometimes done informally with only, if you will, God and the other person as a witness.

Marriage, even Biblical marriage, was considered to be covered by private law, but the contract covered by Bibical restrictions.

Formal marriages or marriage ceremonies were probably only done when the couple or their families wanted it. Or it was done by the rich.

Marriage concepes are first mentioned in Genesis 18 and later 19 and 28.

Genesis 2-24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

This is the first mention of the concept of wife.

Luke 20:34 And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:

As to where in the Bible it says "be with someone" it does not.

The Bible clearly forbidae fornication which is arbitrary sexual activity outside of marriage.

This does not mean you can't be with them.

This is where the traidition of bundling came from in America's earliy day and boy and girl were bundled together with a board between them or the boy was put into a sack and tied up.

It is common law or tradition that when a man and woman "lay together" in a manner that makes the fruitful and muliplied, they are bonded.

Jew law allows a man to set that woman side with a bill of divorcement if he is merely dissatified with her.

Jesus put forth the concept that, except for adultery, a spouse could not set their spouse aside.

Jesus also said that to keep from being a fornicator all me should marry.

This indicates that Casual sex outside of the contract of marriage is considered Fornication.

Forniciation is sited as a sin or wrongful close to 500 times in the old and new testiments.

The Bible does not seem to specifically require any formal marriage, but it personifies it's existance as the proper way to conduct affairs.

The Bible is opposed to the "try her out" process.

It is expected if you try her out, you are taking are wife.

There is, however, a Biblical citation on rape, in which the rapist must either marry the girl or pay a fee to the father.

This indicates that "trying" is not necessarily "marrying for life" it is still an option.

While the Girl my be absolved for being forced to lay with the man, this does NOT mean the MAN is absolved by GOD. That will be determined at some future time by GOD.

It just means Man, the Rapist, has fullfilled the Give Unto Ceasar part of the equation.

That's about the end of it, balls in your court.

Let's also now explore the UNIVERSAL fact that be a relationship Hetro or Homo the JILTED party is never very happy, feels violated, used and abused by a person who just goes when they feel they've had enough.

The idea behind marriage is a union of one. TWO become one. Once they become one, they can't be separated.

Like the United States. One nation, INDIVISIBLE.

No, the Bible does not say you have to be married. In fact, Paul says it is better to not be married, if you can.
As for the origin of marriage, the Bible says God created marriage so that two would become one. It was created to reflect God's love.

I'm going to try this one. How about Mathew 5:33-37.

It seems like Jesus is saying to make "no oath at all".

I don't know the origins of marriage or what it was for. I hope you tell us because I would like to know the answer.

Without looking, & since you already know,

1. Several places the Bible talks about the neccesity of remaining pure in & out of marriage. Fornication & adultry are both sexual sins.
2. Jesus, Paul
3. Adam & Eve. Procreation & companionship.
