BMI is just a simple math formula based on your height and weight. If you tell the scale your height, it's got your weight, and it can easily do the math for you.
If you're talking about the ones which measure the percentage of your body fat, I don't know how they work. I think some of them might be via some kind of electrical current.

I don't know how they can be either. I don't like them. The reason they have come into popularity is because the doctors started using them and then everyone thinks they're great all of a sudden, I don't know how they can be accurate.

Well I expect they can only be accurate if you tell them the truth about your height!
