Hi, Has anyone heard of a homeopathic treatment for an ear infection that involves wetting an aspirin (or possibly some other pain reliever) in your ear? This is for an adult in his 50s, not a child, but I still would like to check before I recommend this to him. I thought I saw this home remedy on tv awhile ago but I might be mistaken. If so, I would appreciate any suggestions for how to treat an earache/ ear infection. Thanks.

Hi, Thanks for all the replies so far. I was wondering, as a child I recall getting an ear infection and I was prescribed milky white drops. Were these antibiotic drops? I was wondering if that might be the route to go but since it's Sunday, I was going to try homeopathic remedies first to try and alleviate some of the discomfort. Hope you can help. Thanks in advance. :)

don't do it!
aspirin will not kill the bacteria causing the infection...in fact it'll make ur ear worse...because it can break down the skin...it's acidic...so u will cause an ulceration in ur ear, allowing the bacteria to spread more or let other bacteria into the ear. also it could damage ur ear drum...it'll put a hole in it.
regarding relieving the pain...u don't just apply the aspirin to the painful site...u want to block the pain nerve...to get to it let ur body deliver to the area via the blood. so u need to ingest the pill.
for example- one person thought that to relieve a bad toothache he could just put aspirin on it...he did it, and it dissolved his tooth!
...so don't do it! just swallow the pill if u want pain relief!

Put a cap full of Peroxide in his ear and leave until it quits
bubbling.Turn his head over and let the peroxide run back out.
If you don"t want to try that, then you can put a couple drops of Sweet Oil (,can use baby oil too,) in to his ear then
If you have a Blow dryer let some of the warm air blow in his ear for a few minutes Put in a piece of cotton. I hope this helps, as nothing is worse than an ear ache !!

This treatment would accomplish nothing, as aspirin is not an antibiotic. Earaches are generally caused by a bacterial infection. The infection can come and go, but if not treated it can rupture the eardrum. It can cause deafness eventually, strep throats, and even worse problems. Take the antibiotics.

The ear drops you get from the vet don't cost much. I got a bottle i think it was called Canural and it was only 20$. The meds from the vet work the best. I told my vet that my dog had an ear infection and he gave me the bottle without having to see the dog.

My mom used to put baby oil in our ears as kids to make them stop hurting. I use this for my daughter. It works for ear infections.
