I have 2 lovies, and I keep both of their wings trimmed. I go and pay 2 bucks each and have their wings trimmed, cause I don't want to be "the bad guy". This is beneficial for you and the bird because you can walk around with the bird and not worry about him getting very far if he tries to fly, and it also makes the bird more dependent on you. It's good for your bird because a lot of pets get out in the wild, and aren't accustomed to it and often die. DON'T TIE A STRING ON YOUR BIRD. The best way to get it to trust you, well theres a couple ways. First of all when you grab them don't be jumpy because they won't think you're jumpy because of them, they will think there is something else in the room and that you are scared of that object, and only make the bird more panicked. During the time you are holding your bird always give it treats after you put it back in the cage, and while playing with it. Even if it won't take them directly from you, place it on the floor or something where they can get it. Another great idea that has worked for me is to take the bird into a smaller room that doesn't have a whole lot of stuff in it to distract that bird or places for it to hide. Dim the lights, more darker than lighter, that will also make the bird more dependent on you! Those are my best tips I can give you, good luck!

DO NOT TIE a string around her foot! Please you have to know that many birds can get hurt if they try to fly and are restricted like that. Their bones are very small and can break easily especially if they are young.
If you have never clipped the wings of a bird before then I would suggest that you go to a professional to get it done. Most pet shops or vets will do this for a very nominal fee. You can also do a lot of damage if you clip the wrong feathers. They have what are called blood feathers and if you were to cut one of those you bird could bleed heavily if you don't know what to do to get it to stop. When you go to the professional or someone who has worked with birds a lot then they can show you EXACTLY how to trim the feathers so that you are the bird are not stressed and you will have a much safer and happier experience with your bird.

Lovebirds sometimes are more to look at than to handle. Your vet can show you how to clip your little birds wings, but don;t try it on your own until your vet thinks you're ready. This is not so that you can carry your bird around, but so that your bird can glide gently to the ground - not fly into a window and break it's neck. Be patient with your bird and remember how big you are compared to her! You'd be scared, too! Take your time, be gentle and don't get mad. It will all work out in time! Good Luck! AND never tie anything on your bird - anywhere!

If you clip the wings be certain not to clip the blood wings, the ones that you can see the blood flowing to. And the string thing isn't a good idea, I would be afraid it would cut into the bird's foot and then you would really have a problem. You need to give her time, and if you got her when she was older she may never be as trusting as one that was handled from the time it was little. Good luck.

Never clip a love bird's wings they are way too tiny to escape any danger without their wing feathers, please dont clip it's wings the poor little thing. Why is it so important to HANDLE your bird? If you want a hand tamed bird BUY one but dont buy a wild bird expecting it to warm up to you because 99% of the time no matter how hard you try the bird just wont tame up. Give it permission to be who it is without you putting your hands on it. Why cant people just enjoy their birds for who they are instead of trying to tame them all the time?

Will it hurt your lovebird? Slowly accustom her to unknown places/ conditions. Start from the cage i think, then interact with her more, soon she'll trust you
