I use Western Digitals Data Lifeguard (the utility they supply with their hard drives to copy your old drive image to your new drive) to make a backup image of my system for recovery. But you can only make one image per drive. I would like to make two or three images (sort of like system restores restore points) to different partitions on the same backup drive. But Data lifeguard and other drive image programs seem to be unable to make multiple drive images on one hard drive. Any ideas?

I've heard some horror stories about corrupt Ghost Images. I don't know if they're true or not.

well, there are many different softwares able to do that.
most responders here advise ghost,
i would recommend Acronis True Image, cause is cheaper and has more functions(like creating backup directly to dvd without 3)rd party soft).
actually these 2 are most famous onec.
but nevertheless there are some different between them.
anyway, here is review about those 2.
and u can compare them.

I have successfully used Norton Ghost, but I also like Drive Image Pro. They have been as good as Ghost may even be better in my opinion.

I don't know but it would be a good idea to burn the Norton Ghost images onto a dvd using a dvd writer. Thus they might be safer there than the hard disk
