I agree with the person who said just record your days as they happen,no matter how mundane they seem to you. Future generations will find some of it fascinating. It is also helpful to mention what is happening in the world and how you feel about it or how it is impacting your life. Imagine all the pioneers and the civil war diarists....they were recording a piece of history and probably never thought their words would matter to anyone. Your descendants will appreciate everything you write, even if you are just complaining that gas went up to $3 a gallon, especially if gasoline is obsolete by then.

When writing a diary, express yourself! Show emotion, be descriptive with your words. Describe the settings, the backgrounds, the people, and atmosphere around you. Vent about things that you wouldn't tell anyone. Write about your deepest darkest secrets. Anything goes when you write, just make sure to write it from your point of view and write down anything that is important to you. Write like there is no tomorrow or to the pen goes dry.

Write down everything about your day and your life. Diaries become historical artifacts that you can pass down to your family. Even the most mundane item, i.e: the cost of a loaf of bread, can have a great impact on the generations that follow. You may even inspire your granddaughter or grandson.

Don't just list what you did today, wore, talked to. Tell about how you felt, good or bad. Put your hopes & dreams down on paper. That much closer to making them real. I have diaries from 100 years ago from a family member but sadly I don't really get a picture of her from it. She only recorded the weather & the number of visitors she had on Sunday.

i personally love to write things down...its a better way to express myself and if i come upon a situation that is difficult i was write it down and when i get through it i will go back and write about how i changed things....the only problem is that you have to be aware that someone might get ahold of it...maybe not today...maybe not even tommorow...but some day down the road someone might find it and start reading it so you have to be prepared for the repercusions if you have something naughty or dirty in there....but just have fun with it....

Write what you did and whom you saw. Write what you learned and what impressed you. What you accomplished. Write something about your mood and its development over days if this is pertinent. You might pick up the same moods from visiting specific people.

Depends why you are writting it. To express your feelings, letting go of anger, embarrassing joy, love and laughter. Sharing your family history, your family vacations, dreams, homes. I write to express and deal with my emotions. I find it quite enlightening and gratifying.

dont worry about who might see ur writings, dont worry about what they might sound like, dont worry about spelling, etc. just let the words flow, from mined to, to heart , to paper. dont stop and re read until u are totally done with what u have to say for that day. AND most importantly, always, always, always be honest with ur self.
