A Socialist would have little problem within the military. If you notice, many socialist countries have strong military heritages. It would be a matter of the person taking on the mindset that by being in the military they are serving their people and their nation.
An Anarchist, a true Anarchist on the other hand most likely would not join the military in the first place. As a true Anarchist is against any current form of order and works to destabilize. This type of person would most likely not join the military as it would be seen as promoting the order (social or political). This distane of order and authority would also make it very unlikely that they would last long in the military even if they should decide to join.

In this country you are allowed to think and believe whatever you want. All that really matters is what you do.
The military will require an Oath to Protect and Defend the Constitution of the US. If our anarchist will take that oath everything is fine.
On the other hand membership in certain organizations will prevent our anarchist service member from getting Top Secret Clearances. That means limited promotion opportunity. I don't know what those organizations are, but I know that such restrictions exist.

Its not a question of if they should be allowed to join its can they adapt to military life? Ararchissts if they were truly dedicated could probably not handle the rigid system and multitude of rules. The military is not about individuals but about teamwork. As far as im aware that is the total antithesis of Anarchy. Advocating Anarchy by the way is a ridiculous and selfish belief system.

Your question demands silly answers. How can you not expect them? In point of fact if one studied it's core documents and beliefs not only should christians not be able to serve in any government organization including the military but the true believers should be locked up because their pacifism, that is called for by their god, would endanger anyone serving with them and leave your countries borders wide open to invasion.

it would be an odd anarchist who'd want to, i should think. if they thought it the best way to protect their loved ones, i MIGHT be able to see it, though there'd be a great deal of trouble, for them, if they attempted to act upon their anarchism, whilst in the military. america's military (the one i imagine you're speaking of, 'cause i'm a crypto-chauvinist, i guess) isn't even a democracy! if you were speaking of a military under trotsky or makhno, of course, the answer would be entirely different.

No. They would not and should not be permitted to be involved in these activities in their off duty hours.
