Because we're brought up in different cultures and each culture believes that it is the best, and only correct, culture in the world. I live in Great Britain but I'm an Englishman. We consider ourselves "better" than the welsh, irish and Scots. Each of them of course assumes the same. It's quite irrational but then, we should all be thankful that we aren't French!

Because a lot of peoples interests are in direct conflict with other people's, this leads to hate and it couldn't be more difficult to reason with someone who already hates what you are reasoning. Getting to the person before this hate is "installed" would seem like the best solution but is largely impossible in the short term.

Within each of us lurks Fear and Hatred.
Within each of us resides the Courage to Love.
Those you describe have surrendered themselves to Fear. And it is so easy to do, which is why so many suffer from it.
But we can find the courage to Love ourselves, others, our world. When we are willing to confront our fear, to look inside and face it, we can find the courage to Love.
And when we love, we realize we are not so very different from everyone else. We all face the same battle. We all seek the same courage. We all are capable of Love.

I believe that most people can see how similar we are. However in is not in their leaders best interests to admit this. It would lessen their power.

Dont be such a crusty ole pessimist....truth be told, all cultures, except Islamic, have learned to tolerate each other...
Of course, we may not survive Islamic intolerance, but that a separate issue...i disagree with your inference here...

I don't see much difference between Islam and Christianity.
"He that lives by the sword gets shot by us who don't."
I don't see a lot of difference here. the end result is the same.
