I went to MEPS 8 years ago and got permanently disqualified for my ears and hearing. However, a few months ago i talked to a recruiter which told me that it would be no problem getting me in. I was a little skeptical, but I lost 45 pounds and went to MEPS any ways. I passed all the test for the exception of the weight. I was 4 pounds over. The MEPS doctors told me that all i had to do was lose the weight and im in. the thing is when i went to the physical they didnt even look in my ears, they didnt look in my mouth, nor did they even check any of the hernia repairs and scars that i have on my stomach. i remember the first time i went to MEPS and the checked everything. Is this unusual? I mean, since i was permanently disqualified i would have thought they would have been all over me because of my ears. but they didnt even check them. so i guess if they told me that all i have to do is lose the four pounds and every thing else will take care of itself. Right? oristhereawayicouldfail?

hey daniel, when you fail the weigh in, all you do when you go back is weigh in, you dont have to do everything over again, thats what I had to do, but you do wait around FOREVER! lol I think it is because the qualifications are always changing, and they are nor being as selective right now because they need people. Good luck!

Maybe they changed the standards because they are in need of people. Also about the 4 pounds I am not sure why this is an issue because you can get taped pass it and still ship out. If you are concerned about your ears and all that don't go. If this is what you want to do and they approve than do it.

If you were disqualified, it was for a reason. This will not be the only physical that you will take in the military. You will take them all the time. You don't want to be booted out of the military later on once they discover you have some sort of pre-existing disqualifying condition. Especially if you were asked to disclose that information before raising your hand.

You failed the weigh-in, so there was no need to go any further. More than likely, if you lose the weight and they check further into your health, you still won't pass. I know you can't pass BCT with a hearing problem. The Drill Sergeants might like to yell loud, but they'll still trip you up with hearing issues.
Good luck!!

They will check it the next time after you lose the weight. They generally only go so far , you know they found the weight problem and sent you packing. so you never made it to the ears test.

no.. they are in need of people...if you pass at meps...you are in!
You just have to pass Boot Camp....
Lose the 4 pounds and go..fast for a week...water and juice....steam room every day! Thats what I had to do to make it in..

Because of a shortage of enlistments, the government has slacked on some of the medical/criminal history requirements. This is actually a great thing for you because when you go to retire, you'll be able to pull in a disability for hearing (yeah! more money!).

Sounds like the army can't afford to be as selective as it used to be.

We're at war.
As the need for bodies goes up the qualification standards go down.
