Yes, they can learn to talk! They won't have a large vocabulary, but they can talk! My uncle had a blue parakeet that could say "Peter, Peter pumpkin eater..." and "Peter is a pretty boy"..."hello"...and I had a Little green parakeet named "Mickey"...He would say to my dog "Have you been a good dog, Cookie?"..."Pretty bird!"..."Hello"..."Give me a kiss"....I believe both of these birds were male because of the color of their beek tops (bluish). I have heard that the males do talk easier, but it coould just be heresay! Both male and female parrots talk at our house! Good luck!

Don't keep repeating the same word/s for hours or something, Just whenever you are next to the bird say pretty bird or whatever but make sure when you say it you use a different tone of voice so the bird is more interested in that particular word. My bird says 5 different sentences and a few words I also taught him how to whistle tunes. You don't have to get an expensive parrot or something to teach it things... I've proven this with my $50.00 cockatiel. Make sure that you are patient with your bird because it takes time. And yes the males are easier to train unlike females which in some cases will never talk even with a thousand training sessions. Have fun!!!

A parakeet can't talk like a parrot, but they CAN mimic some sounds. If the word is one or two syllables they could probably say those too. It doesn't matter if they're male or female though, both should be able to do it. =)

Yes, you can! A Budgie is in the Guiness Book for talking. They have very high pitched voices and speak very fast so you have to listen carefully to understand them. The males are better talkers. In fact, I don't think the females are known for talking.

you can train a parakeet to talk, but beware, once one does, all the others begin to too.

Yes, I believe so. It takes a long time, repeat simple instructions such as "Hello" over and over again, every time you walk by the cage say "hello".. eventually they will pick it up - it takes a long time though
