I am a TRUE American. My family has been in this great country since the early1600 hundred. They came here the legal way.Once here they had to live by the LAWS,work hard, die young to give us what is the USA.My family did not DEMAND this country owed them welfare, housing pay their hospital bills, placing burdens upon TRUE Americans by paying more in taxes to support the law breaking, lieing, stealing Mexicans. They have not earned the right to even be here.My family fought for MY Freedom for this great country. Not for the TRUE AMERICANS to have to work harder for the law breaking sneeking Illegals.Just because a female comes to the USA knocked up,gives birth here, that does NOT make that illegal illegitimate mexican baby an American,or give that Illegal mexican any RIGHTS.One must earn them. One must Pledge their allegiances100%. We are called THE UNITIED STATES,Mexicans come here and burn our flag, thinking we the people of the US owes them.I say hell no go back south now!

You represent a lot of very angry Americans. Remember this in November and vote against representatives who will not address this. This includes most Democrats, some Republicans.

Here's the deal.
It's not quite the same. There was no America when your (and my) ancestors wandered in during the 17th century. To be fair, I don't think one can say that our ancestors came here the legal way either. Europeans saw riches, opportunities, and escape in the New World. They took the land and established colonies. A couple of centuries later these colonies got fed up with European rule and declared themselves free and sovereign states, united in a federation. Then they went to war over it and prevailed. From the time of the European settlers' first arrival on this continent, they also encountered, conquered and subdued the people who were already here - namely various Native American Tribes - and continued this effort long after independence was declared.
In your definition, only persons descended from the original European settlers who arrived to form one of the original colonies are true Americans. This is a very narrow view of citizenship. For argument's sake, let's broaden the picture a little bit and call everyone who is a citizen right now, whether native born or naturalized, true Americans.
You are angry because this country has not seen fit to enact and enforce laws regarding non-citizens entry to and residence in this country. It has not seen fit to protect and police its borders. The sorry result of years of looking the other way when illegals enter the country is that millions are now here illegally and more arrive every day. Now we are faced with trying to straighten out the mess. It will take more than a day, or a year, or even a decade. It will require hard decisions by lawmakers and those who elect them.

Is fighting the answer? We fought britain but had trade problems, wars, and aggression that lasted until the 1930s!
The immigration problem is a real pickle, since the millions that are here are bound to go ballistic when immigration policies start getting rough. The real problem is the mexican government that has no problem letting their indians immigrate. The mexicans of spanish heritage enjoy a different status.
Maybe the reason it bugs everyone so much is the fact that the immigrants are indians, mostly. And they're moving in the same way we did 400 years ago.

You are so right, but one little question. Why only Mexicans? Why not all illegal aliens. Let us not pick and choose. I am an American of Mexican descent, I have never had children and never will have children, so you can count me out of being a welfare recipient. Now the new laws prohibit all illegal aliens to receive welfare even if their children were born here or not. Which is a good thing. Now you never mentioned what country your ancestors came the legal way.
Plus Mexico is in North America, for your information.

First let me say that I am not at all in agreement with those who are trying to justify illegal immigration and argue that illegal immigrants are somehow entitled to all of the rights and benefits of citizens. My family also came to the US legally, my father's family from Northern Ireland as 49er's and my mother's family from Germany following WW1. 5 relatives were killed at Gettysburg.
That being said, and hopefully qualifying as a "true American" in your eyes let me make a few observations:
- The TRUE Americans are (were) the Native Americans who were enslaved or slaughtered by the "legal immigrants".
- Many "Mexicans" are here legally, including the descendents of those who lived in the Southwest (from Texas to California) before being conquered or "purchased" by the US. So your comments implying that all Mexicans are guilty of law breaking, lieing and stealing are pure racisim.
- Did you know that Mexicans (in Mexico that is) are taught in school that the American Southwest is properly a part of Mexico which was stolen from them by the US? Not entirely incorrect - but then the victors always write the history books.
- Did you know that the primary cause of the hostilities between Mexico and the Anglo settlers in Texas (which was legally a part of Mexico) that resulted in the uprising that lead to the formation of the Republic to Texas (the Alamo and all that) was that the Mexican government was trying to prevent the anglo settlers in Texas from establishing slavery (which was illlegal in Mexico). Seems that Mexico had the high moral ground in that one.
So keep the discussion to the facts. Illegal immigration needs to be stopped and a solution has to be found for the millions of illegals who are already here. A big part of the solution has to come from the Mexican government itself that has neglected the needs of a huge portion of the population who see their only option as to go north.

You aren't a true American- What you are is an ignorant pig. I don't think that you truly understand anything about the United states. The only people that can truly be called natives of this land are the American Indians- EVERYONE ELSE IS AN IMMIGRANT! I hate to break it to you, but your ancestors are immigrants too!!!! That's what America is SUPPOSED to be about- freedom for all who desire it, regardless of race or religion. The whole population of america is composed of immigrants. What makes you think that you have any more of a right to be here than anyone else of another race? Your ancestors may have worked hard, but you haven't. You are bad mouthing the people who are just trying to do what your ancestors did, and make a life here. You think that just because you are white that you just deserve freedom- and the right to walk all over others who aren't the same as you. Everyone deserves a chance- just because you are threatened by other people that aren't as fortunate as yourself doesn't mean that you have any right to belittle others the way that you do. You don't know what it means to be an American- and you sure as hell don't understand a damn thing about freedom.

It sounds like you are probably of european descent. Aren't the native Americans the true Americans? Their ancestors lived there for 10,000s of years. The european americans drove the native americans from their land at gun point. 400 years is a shorter time in history. States like Texas, California and New Mexico were conquered from the Spanish Mexico in the last 100-200years. How about the Chinese Americans who built the railroads on the Pacific Coast, they were only given the right to own property late last century, Thousands died in this huge endeavour.

OK now first of all there were no immigration laws in the 1600's. If they did come here there were no borders put up. 2nd of all it is not only Mexicans that come here. People from all over the world come here. Also what do you mean that your law abiding family members came here and followed the law. They were probably inhumane to the people that were here originally, that is if you are not native American. Also I don't see not one Mexican that is able to come here and use our welfare system. For welfare you need a SSN and Mexicans don't have one. So before you start spouting out do your research.
Also where is the question in your ranting and raving?

I think America should always welcome those of another country.. BUT.. those people must follow the proper procedure for becoming citizens of this country.. any that do not, should be caught and returned to where they came from.. it is as simple as that. We cannot bankrupt our own country in order to keep illigals. It is simply not fair to those of us who live here, work hard and pay our taxes and obey our laws. When we, as American citizens break any law, we are tried and put in jail. For our President to say now, that we should pardon all the illegals.. let them stay.. that is wrong. it is the same as saying the laws of the land do not count.. so I guess we can all start breaking them. Why should an illegal get a pass on our laws and yet we do not. makes no sense to me.

True in a way, but they might not've been able to afford to come here. If they came here illegally, but abide the other laws, get a job, go to work, pay their taxes, and do everything else legally...that would make them okay, in my book.
And actually, past Texans fought for independence from Santa Anna, and Texas was an independent country for a bit, until it joined the U.S.A.
