for me it was working on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. I worked at the catapault arming the missiles and bombs before they took off. It can be nerve racking being that close to a jet when it is about to take off. You can either be sucked into the jet intake or blown overboard like a rag doll by the exhaust.

I think the main point of the bumper sticker should be : Army wife: Toughest Job in the Army THAT HAS ABSOLUTELY NO RECOGNITION FROM ANYONE. Most Army wives that I met during my husbands military career had to put up with people saying how great they had it, no husband, they got to spend all his money, do what ever they wanted to, could sleep around and everything since obviously the only reason they married someone in the military is because they dont really love them, if they did how could they get into a relationship that they knew the guy was going to be gone for years at a time? I think it is the toughest job in the military that no one wants to give anyone credit for... America will all stand up to recognize the solider that comes back from a war but when the wife gets stressed out having to deal with being a single parent for year deployments ect, she is told that "she knew what she was getting into when she married him so suck it up" Both are tough jobs, just different. I couldnt make it as a military wife - I am glad that other people like you can.

Any Combat Arms Jobs. Infantry , Combat Engineer, Artillery , Armor, and Special Operations. But the most stressful job has to be the guys who ride in the Smoker vehicle that provides the smoke screen during armored tank fighting. For obvious reason of course lol.

I'd say there's 2.....

the Drill Sergeant

AND

the military spouse

The DS works 20 hours a day to prepare the soldiers for what's ahead in the rest of their career. They have to start with almost and all mature group of guys and turn them into men. Most of them have no discipline and for many it's the first time away from home. What the DS teaches them can mean the difference between life and death sometimes.

The military spouse has so many things to deal with. Raising the kids practically alone sometimes. Keeping the finances balanced and the bills paid. Deployments and not knowing if the one you love is alright. Training and schools that you can't go with them or unaccompanied tours. Maintaining a house and all the vehicles. The list could go on and on.

If this were 20 years ago, I'd say a Boilertech(BT) or "snipe" of any kind on a steam driven US Navy Warship, but today's engine rooms are nice! If this were 20 years ago, I'd say a Gunnersmate, but again, modern Naval Warfare has made the GM spaces nice!

So, as an ex-Boatswainmate, I'll say a Boatswainmate in the US Navy! Very long hours, very dirty work, and very dangerous. A BM in the Navy is a "deck ape" or "Deckhand" from the get-go, and works with busting rust, painting the exterior of the ship, maintaining cargo transfer equipages, works fixing and driving the small boats, refuels the ship underway (along with snipes!), stands underway watches for 4 hours every 12 hours (this is part of what makes underway/at sea work hours long......).

Seaman and Boatswainmates are constantly at risk of falling overboard or being crushed by equipment, or cut in half by parting lines, such as when a mooring line parts (breaks.....)

Also, BM's are constantly trained in firefighting for helicopter landings, and ship board fires, (as does the entire crew), small arms handling, rigging and cargo handling, underway watches and lookout training, navigational training for being a coxswain of a small boat, plus studies to take tests in next rank.

BM's supply most of the work force for working parties and unreps (underway replenishment). There is a lot going on for BM's even on today's sophisticated ships, being a BM is a proud traditional job! :)

Everyone knows that when it comes to the Military, being Marine is the hardest and best of them all. But your looking for most stressful, it would have to be the fiscal guy. He's the one that handles the budget for a unit atleast the size of a Battalion. At my unit, he is the most stressed out Marine I've ever met.

the most hazardous duty is Flight Deck crew on an Aircraft Carrier. Air Traffic Controllers have just as much stress if not more than their civilian counterparts.

One of the top stress job in the military is the landing crew on a aircraft carrier. Also metal stress is the highest in special forces.

Air traffic control is up there about 98 percent in the first year. Personally I think E.O.D. Is on top for burn out due to stress or an exploding bomb. My hat is off to those guys.

Being the Military spouse! Raising a huge family, taking care of the home, and finances, cars, health of the family, and on and on on top of the worry about your deployed hubby 24/7....all while running low on energy from being up all night long just hoping he emails or calls. That is a tough job, only the strong and fit can survive.
