After I had my first child, I began working out and trying to get back to the weight I had been at. But I was not trying to lose the weight to be healthy, I wanted to be attractive to my companion. It turned out that no matter how much weight I lost, he still had mean things to say. It took a long time to get over the emotional damage that he caused to build up his own confidence.
Now I am married to a man that makes me feel beautiful even at 180lbs. We do things together and enjoy each other's company. When I work out, sometimes he joins me. When I gain weight, he takes me shopping so that I feel good about the way I look. He helps me raise my kids and helps me go to school, which has brought up my self confidence more than anything else.
I guess what Im trying to say is: Make sure that your motives are right. If it is for the wrong person or the wrong reasons, it will never be enough.

It's dependant on your height, natural build, bone structure, muscle mass, pre-baby weight, etc.
I don't think that 30lbs would be too much to lose if you're an average height, but probably go see your doctor about it first- you want to make sure you're doing everything correctly and that you'll be able to adequately care for your child whilst losing the weight and once the weight is lost.

How tall are you? It's going to take a healthy diet and exercise. No magic pills for losing weight.
