My boyfriend just left two days ago to go back to England where he lives. I used to live there also, but I am in the States for college. We used to sleep together every night (I don't mean that sexually... I mean we slept in the same bed) but now he is gone and I cannot sleep. I am worried that if I do not get some serious sleep soon, it will affect my health. Any tips on how to get some sleep?

I think you have no other than getting used to the new situation: sleep in your bed all by yourself. It will take time, but you will get over it.

Several things.

One, do some deep breathing. Breathe in for a count of four, hold for a count of four, and release for a count of eight.

Two, when you're laying in bed, go to a "happy place". This is a place where you feel totally relaxed and calm and can rest. My place is a small island with white sand all around and perfect blue water. I don't have a lot of other details because when I think of being here, I fall asleep.

Three, you're probably reacting to the lack of warmth. Tuck yourself in well and, if you have one, use an extra blanket or set of pillows in the empty space that you can cuddle up to.

Keep in mind that OTC sleep drugs can be addictive and have negative side effects.

I know what you mean. I am currently away from my girlfriend. I have been falling asleep with her on the phone. I know that this could be costly maybe you can try something like Skype where if you both have it its free. We are both in the US and we have the same cell phone carrier. Before then we used skype. I don't know what I would do if I at least didnt have that. I also sent her a blanket and my favorite stuffed animal which I have named D.O.G. to sleep with. Check out Skype its cool as well if you want to sleep together. I know there is a time difference maybe you could just hear his voice for a little while to ease your lonely mind.

Activity. Exhaust yourself. Soon you will even out. Also, do all the things like wine or a sedative without wine...Listen to music without words and turn it off when you get sleepy. Talk to listeners and talk alot and you will finally process the loss and be able to sleep. Whatever you do, don't drive much right now. Best to ride in the back seat. I know it helps kids sleep.

Stay away from sleep aids. You want to sleep naturally.
I think that the suggestions about getting a body pillow are very clever. I would add that you also either start working out or increase the intensity of your workout. That will help tire you out.
I also like to fall asleep watching tv - gets my mind off of stuff.
