Cat names for me come from various places.

My current crew is Fred, Buck and Miss Dale Tweetums.

Fred was named after a cat my husband's family had when he was a teen ager. That cat was responsible for putting my husband on my teenage radar screen by visiting my house one summer day. I put a note on the cat with my name and phone and grade in school.
That note resulted in a phone call. Over twenty years later DB and I got married.

So we HAD TO name a cat after the original Fred.

Miss Dale Tweetums is my mother-in-law's former cat. When she married a man with a mild cat allergy, DB and I adopted her.

She was half of a "brother-sister" act. She and her brother Clyde were adopted as kittens. Dale was "Clyde's Dale". DB's father loved punning around. She became Tweetums, because according to my mother in law, she is such a tweetums of a cat.

Buck got his name out of thin air. DB and I adopted Fred, and his litter mate. I wanted to name the kitty after an old friend. DB just said "Buck". And he was Buck.

Our recently adpoted Puppy, came with his name Kiko. But the listing on petfinders.com, a pet adoption service had his name listed as Kiki in several other places on the listing. When my sister and I were girls we had a long haired cat named Kiki who lived to almost seventeen. The typo led me to a very sweet, now nine month old mixed breed puppy. I later found out the family who could not keep Kiko at their new home had a daughter named Kiki.

My wife and I have 2 Siberian Huskies, both females. We named one of our dogs Xenia (pronounced Zee-na) after Xenia the Princess Warrior, mainly because she has very distinctive markings (sometimes called a mask) on her face, and piercing blue eyes, which gives her a rather exotic look. So, we thought she should have an exotic-sounding name. Also, this dog THINKS she is a princess, so the name kind of fits all the way around. Our other husky is named Bayleigh, mainly because we just thought it was a cute name. She isn't exotic-looking like our other dog, but she does have one brown eye and one blue eye, and definitely has her own personality!

For some reason, all of my cats have Irish names - my first 2 cats were already named Patrick and Harris, so I stuck with the theme - currently I have Patrick, Bailey and Maggie May.

Our dog is a Pekingese, so we named him Ping.

My dog was already named Daisy when we got her from a shelter. Or someone at the shelter named her that. I liked the name and kept it. I thought it suited her because she has long legs like Daisy Duke! We named our other dog, a Lhasa Apho, Buddy simply because the name fit. My boyfriend thought he just looked like a little Buddy. We call our cat Mama Kitty because she had kittens. We started off calling her Pounce, but somehow that name didn't stick.

Usually I wait to get them home to name them, or I think of loads of cute names and then pick the one that suits them the best. When I was looking for kittens, I contacted the breeder i liked the sound of and went to meet the kittens and the mother of the litter. I chose my two kittens and named them that day, Ruby is a red Burmese and so that kind of inspired her name, and Jemima is my b/f's grandmother's name, but we just loved it coz it was such a sweet name.

definite yes!

Chompers for a boxer sounds like a good name. No, I do not own this kind of dog or any other pet right now.

Bugs short for Bugs Bunny. Was my pet rabbits name. He had gray fur and white belly.

Roadie was based on a song I heard while trying to come up with a name. Goliath got his name because he is so big (105 pounds). Ellie and Lacey were originally Lucy and Ethel. In their case it doesn't really matter. They are deaf and only respond to hand signals.

One cat is named Stewie after Family Guy, but we name all of our animals with names that fit them that begin with the letter "S". All of them have "human" names, no Sugar or Silver, but we started the "S" thing after our first pet, our dog, came with the name Shelby and we kept it.
