Some cats, especially Siamese, suck and chew on wool. If that isn't the case, some cats never loose that kitten urge to suckle from their "mommy". Cats usually are separated from the mother fairly young and become independant. They give up their kitten behaviors. Many house cats never really grow up because they live with a caretaker all the time. They can keep kitten behaviors a long time into adulthood.

It really doesnt deal with being weaned to early as kittens as old at 16 weeks removed from mom can still suckle. This is actually a comfort measure to a cat, it reminds them of the kitten days. Id let your kitty do it, as it does help relieve stress and unless its a major annoyance to you. You can always just set the cat down and they will stop.

That's what I think, too; complexes from being separated from the mothers at too young an age. My friend bought a small stuffed animal for her cat when he was 6 weeks old (when he was taken from his mother, and much too young in my opinion)....he's about 4 years old now, and still sucks on it.

Your cat might be bord, get him/her some new toys to play with and make sure your cat doesn't suck on your clothing any more b/c its a bad habit and its hard to break. It could also be that since your not their your cats alone it might need a friend. Think about getting another pet.

Usually it's because they've been weaned too early, but it's also a comfort thing (think of a 2 year old with a pacifer). Take it as a compliment - she loves you!
