My cat has little brown dots in his fur, and there are red spots on his skin. His fur is balding, and he freaks out if you touch the area (ihe licks his chest. i dont know why) and there are, like little dead pieces of skin. he just got a flea bath and is wearing a flea collar

This was before the flea bath. So does Frontline works good?

A flea collar has been on for like a week or more,

The flea bath was made for cats and dogs. And, nit didnt work too great... didnt even get the flea poop off.

ANd do you think it is serious enough to take him to the vet?

Yes, it's serious enough to warrant a trip to the vet. It's possible he's allergic to flea collar. But if it was present BEFORE the flea collar was put in place, he could be allergic to something else. Or it could be some sort of feline dermatitis, a fungus, something viral....bottom line; take him to the vet.

I would take him - it could be an allergic reaction to the flea dip or it could be a more serious problem. The red spots on his skin are probably blood flakes from the fleas.

My cats had a pretty bad experience with fleas (one came home with them from the vet after his neuter and they transfered to the other cats). While all of the cats were getting a flea dip (after a visit to the vet), we got the house flea bombed - that way, after the cats came home clean, the flea eggs were also gone.

Ick!

Yes, it is serious enough to take him to the vet. He's having a very bad reaction to something. One thing: I never had a cat that was not allergic to flea collars. These days I just keep the house flea-free. And we are all much happier.

Good luck!

sounds like flea allergy dermatitis. flea baths and flea collars are a waste of time. Go to your vet, get your cat an injection to help with the redness and itching then buy a proper flea preventative from your vet and keep your cat on it.

Flea collars do not work and are toxic to pets. Frontline or Advantage is the best way to go. Yes it is serious enough to see your vet. Fleas cause heartworm and yes, cats get heartworms too. Have them recommend what to use in your house. Your cat is dropping eggs every where it goes and they will hatch.

Ringworm or a form of mange could be the problem. You need to take him to the vet. Both conditions can weaken and kill a cat.
