How about something on the obesity rate in this country and compare it to the obesity rate from the 1960's, 70's, 80's, and 90's. Also look at childhood obesity rates, diabetes rates, and how with our fast-paced world, our diet has changed from healthy foods, to fast foods and boxed meals. Your project could discuss the impact of obesity on our health by looking at again diabetes, high blood pressure, and other diseases related to obesity and poor eating.
Perhaps you could give your presentation a title like:
"How America got Fatter."

Since it's a popular news topic lately, maybe look at the probability that avian influenza (aka bird flu) will mutate so that humans can be susceptible to infection and transmit the virus on.
